  • A Newbie after 3 1/2 Years!

I so want this to work for me again! My husband and I began Atkins for the first time in November of 2002 on the advice of our physician. Both of us had great success. I lost over 70 pounds in a year. We don't know how much he lost because we don't know what he weighed when he began. He's been on it ever since, and is still doing well.

I was so committed to the plan, and had great fun planning and preparing meals. I felt great. Then one day, about a year into the plan things changed quickly. I got really sick and nearly died. It wasn't the plan that caused the problem. In fact, the doctor said that if I hadn't been eating all the protein, I wouldn't have healed as quickly from the surgery as I did. But it still took 6 months for me to heal, and I had to live in a nursing home for that period of time. They DEFINITELY do not do Atkins!

Anyway, I have tried to get back on the plan ever since. It seems that I can do well for a day or two, but the third day is terrible. I'm really good about drinking the water. This time I feel like I have the same resolve that I had at the beginning, and now that I found the ADBB, I have someone else to turn to for support.

I'm looking forward to getting back on the board each day.
    June Goals
    1. Continue with water
    2. Use bike more (3x per week would be nice).
    3. Continue with videos.
    4. Go to the YMCA for water classes.
    5. Build stamina for more walking.

    Goals for May:
    1. Water every day - at least 100 oz.
    2. Walk through Wal Mart instead of ride.
    3. Post every day.
    4. Get the exercise bike out of basement and use it!
    5. Re-read DANDR! It's been too long.

That is so common among those of us who had to get back on the wagon for whatever reason (mine was pregnancy). This board is great for the type of support you need. It sounds like what you really need is a good dose of enthusiasm! Join one of the challenges, start up a journal, etc. This will hold you accountable and make friends that will cheer you on!

    Welcome!

Thank you so much for your encouragement. Your comments moved me to tears. Dreamof145 -- your pictures are really moving! We look so much alike, it's not even funny. If you can do it, so can I.

I really do want this to work again. I found myself actually getting up this morning thinking about the ADBB and couldn't wait to get on it, and before I'd eat anything I entered my day's meal plan into FitDay. Already I feel better, just knowing that I'm not consuming 10,000 calories and who knows how many carbs. (I know we don't count calories, but it's still interesting to know how many we do eat.)

Day 1 was a totally clean day for me - 20g carbs, and about 1700 calories. If my feet would cooperate, I'd do walking, but for now, I'm planning to move the exercise bike out of the basement so I can use it every day -- even if it's only while I fix supper.
