  • I am new to this but not Atkins :)

    Hey everyone.
My name is sasha and I am 22 yrs old. I just moved to Vancouver BC from Nova Scotia. I have struggled with my weight my whole life. 3 summers ago I was at 167 and went down to about 154 lbs on atkins. it was my first time doing it and it was amazing at the time.

Last month I was up to 194 and down to 182 in only 3 weeks on Atkins. I am now back up to 194 and thinking about making this last longer than 3 weeks. It is so hard to stay on the diet and the food gets so old, but the diet does work if you can mentally prepare yourself.

I am going to try to do this yet again.

Do yourself the favor of thinking of this as just a healthy way to eat and the weight loss as a great side effect - not a diet. Not sure if you have the book but you should look in to adding some variety to your diet if you are getting burnt out on what you had been having. There are really so many choices!

Hi Sasha and welcome to ADBB!

I agree with Cypressgirl, changing your mind into thinking this is a lifestyle change, not a diet, is really important.

Check out the 14 Day Induction forum and the cookbook for ideas...there's are so many good Induction friendly recipes, you really don't need to be bored with the food!

Take care and see you around the board!

I love your happy weight range idea. Good for you and that is a great idea.
As far as boredom goes, eat induction for the 2 weeks, then move into OWL and get more variety. OWL can be a wonderfull place to lose the majority of your weight.
Also don't limit yourself to boring ways to prepare your food. Really this can lend itself to a more gourmet lifestyle. Butter, cream and full fat taste freat and cook well.
For example instead of just steamed cauliflower and broccolli, steam the same cauliflower, mash well, mix in butter and cream then top with melted cheese. And for added flavor add crisp bacon to the top. A wonderfull dish (think of a loaded baked potato) Anyway, don't limit this and make it tasteless. there are so many wonderfull options.

Re: I am new to this but not Atkins

The cauliflower dish is induction firendly. Just a really tasty, super easy lunch. Once you move into OWL and can have more veggies, you can make a bigger portion of this and really makes a good sized lunch on its own.
And their are so many recipes to look at in the recipe section.
I used to try to make something new every week. That helped me get some good dishes that I could draw from for my menus. You will find stuff you do like.
Some veggies lend themselves to making dishes that remind you of a higher carb dish. Cauliflower that is lightly cooked and still firm can be broken down into small pieces and prepared like rice (spainsh rice, chicken and rice, what my husband refers to as payeta-mexican rice with meat in it.) And well cooked can really substitute well for potatoes. Spagetti squash subs well for spagetti.

Re: I am new to this but not Atkins

Hey Sacha! Greetings from New Bruswick - close enough to home, I guess!

Glad to hear you're back on track. I, too, have struggled and fallen off the Atkins WOE due to too much time on Induction. I can tell you that moving up the rungs is going to help in the boredom department.

Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on your success! I hope Vancouver proves to be as beautiful as Nova Scotia is (only been as far West as Alberta, myself...)

                Take care!

                S.
