  • Hello All!

Well after hitting 310lbs seems I'd better do something not good at age 39. I'm not going after an unreal number I feel comfy hitting 250lbs as a realistic # then I would like to work to 225. Today is day 1 for me but I'm in a different situation, I work very odd hours 4pm to 4am so my eating pattern seems alot different. I'm not hungry when I wake up but from 10pm to 4am is when I lose it, right up to the vending machine to buy crap to keep me entertained and to give me a little energy but the bad news it's put the lbs on cuz it's not the right food. I've heard all the negatives about Atkins and people telling me how bad it is but after a visit to a doctor he told me to go for it and he will monitor blood pressure ect...I have one really bad downfall and I'm pretty sure it's not allowed on phase 1 and that is the super energy drink I consume they are the diet one's and it says only 1 carb but it's packed with caffiene or are you allowed so much?
How did I get this 310 lb body? I had pinched sciatic nerve last summer and it put me out of commision for a very long time. I could not do all the things that I like, ride bikes, golf, hike, play outdoors with my kids or really anything except spend alot of time on the couch and we all know what happens when you sit on a couch with a remote, Yep eat . This is my time to turn everything around and after reading some of the success stories on the site I've decided that I will post mine in the near future.
For right now about the only excercise I can do is walk because of the pain I still have from the pinched sciatic nerve but I will do my best to do more when the lbs come off that is another goal....

    Re: Hello All!

Welcome to ADBB! Caffeine is a no-no. It's been known to stall people. Sorry.

Honestly, I don't think there is anything negative about Atkins. Think about it...natural food, vitamins and minerals, no refined sugars and starches, no junk food. Healthy amounts of water and exercise, too!

Pick up the book (2002 edition) and it explains everything. You'll see the sense in it...and it really does work if you do it how Dr. A tells us to.

Good luck on your journey and let us know how you're doing.

      Re: Hello All!

Most people find renewed energy once they start Atkins and eat naturalwhole foods anyway, so try losing the energy drinks for a month and see how you feel. I also work funky hours, from 3am-Noon, and my boyfriend drinks energy drinks sometimes too, but he never needed them before he started drinking them, and I bet you can make it without them too. Cafeinne is very addictive and part of doing Atkins is losing those addictions and bad habits =).

Welcome. Here's you'll find lots of encouragement, if you post. Can you get to a computer at work? If so, maybe you could try to post something whenever a craving hits. At least it would make you stop and think about what you are getting ready to do.

I know you can be successful with this. Stick with it, and it will be a way of life.
        June Goals
        1. Continue with water
        2. Use bike more (3x per week would be nice).
        3. Continue with videos.
        4. Go to the YMCA for water classes.
        5. Build stamina for more walking.

        Goals for May:
        1. Water every day - at least 100 oz.
        2. Walk through Wal Mart instead of ride.
        3. Post every day.
        4. Get the exercise bike out of basement and use it!
        5. Re-read DANDR! It's been too long.

            Re: Hello All!

Welcome - so happy to join us. Atkins is not negative. Being overweight and miserable and unable to live a healthy life is what is negative. Atkins has helped me to shed pounds, learn to make healthier choices in my eating, make exercise a regular part of my life and gave me the opportunity to go out in the world and rejoin the active people. To me that is the most positive force on earth.

You can do this. Start by reading the book, doing the program like the Dr. Atkins designed it. Exercise, drink water, take supplements and keep focused. You have a great support system here to encourage you. I look forward to hearing about your success!!

Start your own thread in the journal chat forum. It will be a good place to track your success and struggles. And others read it, too, so that helps with accountability!

HI There! Welcome to the board!

Glad you jumped in with both feet and got moving on your journey with Atkins. I'm a walker too, and it's the best exercise ever when starting out...next to doing the back float in the pool. Okay, so that may not be considered exercise, but it's a start. lol.

                    Best wishes on your journey!

                      Re: Hello All!

Welcome D! I'm delighted you've found us and are committed to a change in your WOE. I, too, am on a ridiculous work schedule - 11PM - 7AM, and then I have my son home from school by 1:30PM. I am very sympathetic to what such a flip in routine can do to a person, and their motivation.

Just wanted to send along some encouragment. I've been at this since Feb. and am very pleased with the extra energy it's afforded me. It sure comes in handy after those looooonngg hours of darkness between, say 2 and 5AM.

I have adapted my "meal" schedule to accomodate this WOE - and with more success than I ever imagined. Since I'm not much of a breakfast-type eater, I don't tend to look at my meals in those terms. I usually eat something when I get up in the afternoon (lunch), then have my supper sometime between 8-9PM. I may snack in the overnight; sometime around 2AM, and have something light, if I'm hungry (usually not) after my kiddo heads out for school at 8AM. By that time, I'm generally most concerned with hitting the sack and getting as many z's as possible. Anyhoo, I'm not sure if this will be of assistance, but I sure would have benifited with some advice of this sort when I was starting out. We shiftworkers have to stick together!

Take care, best of luck and keep us posted!

                      S.

Hi and welcome to ADBB and Atkins!

About the posting, post as much as you'd like. The forums are laid out so you can get the idea of their specialty pretty easily.

Like Main Forum and Atkins Phases Forums (ie 14 Day Induction) would be the best place for questions related to Atkins plan. Questions about what you're eating and need someone to take a look, post in Review My Menu.

The Journal Chats is great place to put your thoughts down and get encouragement on a daily basis! Journal Stats is your own place to keep track of your menu, exercise, water consumptions...whatever!

You'll figure it all out in no time, see you around!
