  • hello everyone!

I am new here. I followed the atkins plan for about 2.5 months last year, and lost 25 pounds for a vacation to Miami. I felt so good, and bought all these new cute clothes. But when I got back, I got mono, was sick for a while, fell off the program, and never got back on. So I have since gained that 25 pounds back, plus 5 more. All those cute clothes are now collecting dust in my closet, and I am wanting to be able to wear them again!

I have been trying for the past couple months to get back on Atkins. I think a huge part of my success last time was that my sister was doing it with me [we live together], so we were each others support system. She is trying to start too, but we have both been having trouble getting on the ball. When she goes to get food for her boys, we both end up caving in. =\ I am def someone who needs a buddy/mentor type to help out when I am feeling weak.

Anyways, that turned into a mini novel. Any advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

    Re: hello everyone!

    Mslisa,

Welcome back to Adkins. I stayed on Adkins for 4 years and had a 5 months relapse for medical reasons. So, I came here exactly for the same reasons that you did. I need the support system to help me stay on track. That's how I lost 100 pounds the last time and that's how I'll get back to goal this time.

The people here are really friendly so try to jump into an induction challenge so that you can get yourself back on track. Check in as much as you can on a daily basis and I bet, before you know, you'll be the example for your sister. If you toss the bun and order a salad at the fast food places, you can still eat with your sister and lose weight too. Then, you can wear all those cute clothes (I'm looking forward to getting into my size 2 - 4 Cavalli jeans too ... but, that's going to take awhile ).

You can do this! Stop by and say hello anytime.

Welcome back to Atkins. As you know, this way of life makes you feel fantastic. I have more energy and am more active now than I was when I was younger. There are so many people here who are making it happen for themselves and are more than willing to share experiences, advice and friendship to help you succeed.

Best wishes to you, please keep us posted.

Great you are coming aboard, mslisa. You will have plenty of support here, and plenty of company with similar experiences. (I too had once done a great Atkins period, then was sick and gained it all back with interest). My morning motivation is a bunch of nice summer clothes I haven't worn in over a year in one suitcase; my insurance policy is a stack of ruptured garments I never want to have to mend in another!!

                    Re: hello everyone!

It is hard when you are faced with pot-lucks, dinner invites and other food related invitations. I had a lot of them when I first started this WOE and at first I felt sorry for myself because of the foods I couldn't eat. I began to change my attitude and started becoming excited about the foods I could eat. I'd take foods that I liked and make sure I drank lots of water. I soon learned that it was about being with people and enjoying friendships rather than what I ate. Make it a challenge to yourself. If you think it will be too hard to resist the foods, then eat beforehand or drink excess of water to fill up your tummy. Make mental positive notes to yourself and keep repeating them. Best wishes. I know you can do it. Food will always be around...we just need to learn to change our attitude about it.

                      Re: hello everyone!

Hey MsLisa, welcome aboard! This place is great...it's my inspiration, motivation, support system, life line.

As for the pot luck tomorrow, take something totally YUMMY that you can have. Plus, share with the rest. I had a similar situation in the beginning where we were having a breakfast--all pastries. I made a frittata (like a quiche with no crust) and everyone ended up eating ALL my fritatta and left the expensive gourmet pastries to be thrown out!!!

Make a cheese and veggie tray, make a fritatta, a big yummy salad with lots of texture--spring mix lettuces, red and yellow bell pepper, mushrooms, olives, cucumber, celery, feta or blue cheese, bacon and egg.

You've got time to prepare, and even though it's late, you could always swing by the grocery on your way to work and throw it together just before the potluck.

Being prepared ahead of time is key.
