  • new and need some advice

hi everybody , i've been lurking around the forum and i finally decided to sign up.

Im a 20 year old guy, 280 pounds, 6'3'' tall and im shooting for a 200-210. Actually ive started atkins 6 days ago and lost 5 pounds to date ..

i read the book and its really mind blowing , all the things i thought i knew is changing ..

i have a couple of question i would like to ask ..

what is the time frame you think that i'll be able to meet my 70-80 pounds goal ..

im on the induction phase now , which is a 2 week phase.. do you think that i could extend it and how much more can i stay on "induction" .

im trying to put a minigoal for my self , but what should my minigoal be for say the next 3 months ?

thank you all for this wonderful community.

Hey, I am a newbie too, for the 3rd time! First of all, Dr. A gives us a choice to extend induction as long as we are not bored and don't want to exchange for slower weight loss and more food choices. For instance, you can see my number in my signature...I am pushing to stay on induction (or somewhere close) at least until I am under 200. So, it's your decision. Goals are great, but everyone loses weight at a different pace, so I would recommend rewarding yourself with something other than food when you reach a certair exercise, inches lost, or weight lost goal. Maybe a new piece of clothing to fit your shrinking body, and new piece of workout equipment, whatever works for you!

Good Luck, and don't forget your water!

Can't wait to see you shrink!

Re: new and need some advice

      Welcome Max,
It's a fact that guys lose weight faster than women, so with that in mind, I think that it will only take you 3-5 months to lose your 70-80 pounds. With that said, set your minigoals according to your total time that you will be losing weight, for example: If I'm losing 20 pounds per month, I'll set a minigoal of 20 pounds by the next month, etc.

Also, I think that you would greatly benefit by moving through the OWL phases and Pre-Maintenance when you are down to 10 pounds to go.

Congratulations on your weightloss thus far and I hope that you are very successful on this new WOE.

Hi max and welcome to ADBB and Atkins.

Well, no one can predict your weight loss in 3 months. But if you follow the rules and phases outlined in the book, exercise, drink lot's of water and visit ADBB often for motivation and support, you should get a good chunk off by then!

Re: new and need some advice

Welcome Max. When we first start this program, we all seem to ask HOW FAST can I lose xxx amout of weight. But, as you do the program and see the inches fall off, you become less infactuated with the number on the scale as you do the increase in energy, the new improved zest in life and the way your body starts to look younger and the confidence that you start to feel over your control of food.

Everyone loses at different speeds. Regardless of what the scale says, take your measurements and you'll be able to record and visualize the actual shrinking taking place with your weight loss. The ADBB is full of forums that will help you stay motivated, learn and communicate with others who are making it happen and challenges for keeping you active.

BEST WISHES to you and please keep us posted on your progress!!

What the girls said! Take your measurements! Also, don't get trapped into the "I must lose 70 pounds in 6 months" trap. As someone on this board has in their signature, It took you more than a day to put on the weight, it will take more than one day to take it off!! Be patient and realize that this is a way of life. Also, don't think that extended Induction is the be-all end-all. Many people on this board have stalled in extended Induction and started losing again in the OWL rungs. Listen to your body!

Anyway, welcome aboard, Max! We are thrilled that you are here!
