  • What is clean induction?

I am currently doing the Atkins diet, I started again on March 13, 06 and said I would do a modified version and not the 20 carb a day diet. But I think that may have hurt my progress. I am now sticking to 20 carbs a day and losing 1-2 lbs per week. I also work out a least 3 days a week. I feel my weight loss is slow. I am down a total of 23 lbs as of this week. I eat low carb ice cream and candy and drink crystal light. I am sure this is part of my problem. So I want to start fresh and find out about clean induction. Can someone please give me some info on it? I would also like to know what is the average weight loss per week after the first 2 weeks?

    Re: What is clean induction?

Hi Voice and welcome to ADBB and Atkins,
Pull out your 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution and read the rules of Induction; read all of the acceptable foods lists, requirements for water and exercise.

That is a clean induction - stick with the rules in the book, period.

No one can guess at what your weight loss might be, but some lose 5-10% of the total they need to lose during the 14 Day Induction period, some don't lose that much.

    Hope that helps a bit!
    Shelly

      Re: What is clean induction?

to my knowledge, clean induction means no low carb shakes, candy, etc. Also strictly eating no more then 20 grams of carbs per day.

There may be more to it, but I think those are the basics.

and I am interested to know about the average weight loss as well.

We go by the Atkins New Diet Revolution book published in 2002. Here is a link where you can purchase it for 75 cents:

That being said, you absolutely need the book to do this right. The one thing that we don't follow in the book is where they say that Atkins low carb products are okay for Induction. Most low carb products contain sugar alcohols and they are absorbed at a slower rate so Atkins nutritionals says that you can ignore their carb count. Not so. They are absorbed slowly but they are absorbed and processed and they do count. So that 3 net carbs candy you ate that had 19 carbs overall and maybe 3 of which were fiber actually gave you around 12-14 carbs when all was said and done. The only thing you always can subtract from your carb count without fear is fiber! You will have to look up some info on sugar alcohols in the link here:

So back to what is a clean induction...It is very important to go through the entire book and really learn what Atkins is. That will teach you all you need to know to get started. Also, there are some great stickies at the tops of the forums on this board:

You have to get rid of the processed stuff and go natural for these two weeks. You will absolutely see a dramatic improvement in your results if you do this for yourself.

Welcome to ADBB! Also, any info about yourself (height/goal weight/current weight etc) that you post in your signature will help people answer your questions more specifically. Can't wait to see you melt

          Re: What is clean induction?

Thanks for the info. I do have the book, and I have to be honest I did not read it all the way through. And I was just thinking that the Russell Stovers Toffee Squares would be ok. Now I do have Atkins shakes and the can says they are acceptable for Phase 1 is that so? Or should I stay away from them for 2 weeks. I am a very busy mother of 3 and the shake is usually my breakfast. Also can someone please tell me what is the average weight loss per week after the first 2 weeks?

            Re: What is clean induction?

if you want to do this perfectly read the book and eat the foods listed as acceptable for the first two weeks this is not really about a "quick fix" it is really about learning to eat better and stay thin permanently

shakes are not on the list of acceptable foods for induction ...

but you can do anything you like actually you just may not acheive the desired results is all

              Re: What is clean induction?

If it's not on the permitted foods list then don't eat it. Two weeks passes in a flash, then you can move on to OWL and slowly add things back. OWL is great... you still get to lose, so don't be afraid to make the move if induction feels too limiting to you. But do do a clean induction; it helps break the sweet cravings and puts you squarely into ketosis.

Thanks all I left the ice cream, candy, and crystal light alone last week and stuck to the foods on the list except for the shakes and I lost 5.4lbs in 1 week so thank you so much I intend to stay away from the other stuff for a while
