  • Always been the fat one.

    Where to start this?

I am 19 and just finished my freshman year in college. Some how I did not gain the freshman 15 and ended up loosing five pounds. This was probably due to the fact I had gall bladder surgery a week before school started and well that made me loose weight. Diabetes runs in my family and I am really scared that if I continue this way, I will get it in my 20's.

I have always been the fat one in my group of friends or classes. I dont know how I would look skinny. I hardest thing to hear was when a close friend told me that I would look so pretty if I were to be skinner. ...

I have tried so many diets in the past including Atkins I just had no motivation to continues pursuing my dreams of getting healthy and being a thinner me.

I can do almost anything except loose weight. I am ready to try again and make a change in my life. Hopefully this is the last time to start over.

I have not started this diet yet, I am waiting for the book to arrive at my house to get on the right track. So if anyone could lead me in the right direction so I could start earlier that would be awesome.

Lightest weight ever at current height: 225
    Heaviest weight: 280
    Current weight: 269
    Goal weight: 170

Overall size I want to slim down to:
    Size 8/10

    Starting Picture

I am the one in the red obviously.

    Wish me luck!

Best of luck to you, Chapa! Here you will find more support than you'll know what to do with!

I can empathize; I know what it's like to be the biggest among a group of friends; it's never easy, and I always found myself feeling like I could never measure up.

You can do this! Keep motivated, check in often (as often as needed) and never be afraid to ask questions. It's what's kept many of us on track throughout our own journeys.

You are obviously a beautiful girl from your picture; I cannot wait for the day that you are able to see that yourself! Take good care! Keep us posted!

Re: Always been the fat one.

Welcome to ADBB! You're a beatutiful lady!

You might want to start by heading over to the Main Atkins Forum and the 14 Day induction forum and reading the stickies. And then just cruise around the 14 day induction and read posts, you can gain a lot of info from posts on this board! Reading the book is important though, but you can probably gain enough knowledge from this board to get yourself started!

Welcome to adbb! There is so much support here, I hope you find it too!
Before I started, I "warmed up". I spent about a week and a half before cutting out sugar and caffeine, so that by the time I started induction, it wasn't cold turkey. You could also start cutting out bread and flour products.

You are beautiful, fat or skinny.. I think we all would be "healthier" at a lighter weight.

I have always been the fat one as well so I can relate. Take care, you have come to the right place..

Re: Always been the fat one.

Hi! Congrats for making the decision to lose weight. I too was always the fat one, but am currently working to change that. Definately check out the 14 day induction forum. Also remember, water is one of the most important things! Drink Drink Drink! If you want to get started, start eating meats and veggies (lettuce, cucumbers, brocolli etc.). You can also have cheese (a biggie for me) Stay away from diet coke's....drink water instead. Hope you get off to a good start. This is my second go around, so feel free to contact me if you need support or to talk Have a great day!~

Re: Always been the fat one.

I just started what I thought was Atkins, but I did not read the book and just thought the diet was "eat as much cheese, meat, and veggies as you want." I even lost 7.5 lbs the first week! The second week I gained .5 lbs and I realized I need to get strict. I just bought a few Atkins books last night and read through most of them. I thought that these would help me, but I didn't get what I really needed: "Atkins New Diet Revolution" so I can really buckle down and start it.

I am 21 and I've also always been the big one. Girlie, you are gorgeous no matter what. You sound like you have the motivation. Good luck!

Re: Always been the fat one.

Chapa, you are such a beautiful girl! I remember the first time I came to Adkins, I was ready to have weight loss surgery and then I lost 25 pounds in the first 6 weeks and I realized that this would work for me. I went from 230 - 130/134 and maintained hat for 4 years. Had some medical problem and gained weight over the past 5 months so I'm back. Started induction, lost some weight and I just know that I'll make my goal weight again. This way of eating just works - it does. So, all I can say is get the book. Go over to the induction section and start as soon as you can. The sooner you start, the better you''ll feel about yourself. It's fun having the support here, you never starve yourself on this way of eating, and you'll turn around and find yourself at your goal weight in no time. The first time, a year went by and I was wearing size 2's and 4's. I could have never imagined that when I started - I thought I needed surgery.

                  I wish you the best!
