I'll admit...Noone ever told me how bad carbs are for you!!! I had no idea that they made u fat I've been overdosing myself on carbs for at least 10 years
Yes...I was a carb addict to the fullest extent. I woke up drinking Dr. Pepper and the last thing I drank before bed was Dr. Pepper. I never had a huge sweet tooth but I LOVE BREAD AND PASTA!!!

My mom started the atkins diet 3 months ago and she's lost about 35lbs. After seeing this... I asked to borrow the Dr. Atkins book. I've never really been on a diet in my life. I never had a weight issue until I started having kids. This book has FOREVER changed my life !!

WHy didnt someone inform me YEARS ago that carbs had SUCH a major impact on being overweight? I was AMAZED at the facts and the proof. It all made COMPLETE sense!! WOW I finally found out what my issue was!

Yesterday (monday) was my 3rd week on atkins...So far I've lost a total of 29 lbs!!
Of course my mother was in disbelief until she looked at the scales too. Its amazing and I dont wanna stop!
Apparently I'm not the normal because it took her 3 months to lose this much BUT I am alot younger and I cut out some things that she didn't.
Its been 3 whole weeks since I've had ANYTHING besides water. I'll admit tho..I eat like a queen.
I followed the intro diet to the tee for the first week THEN i added strawberries,Heavy cream, avocado, and watermelon. I know the book says not to add these until u move from intro to OWL but i ran into some issues with the food.
For starters I'm lactose intolerant. I can eat the cheese BUT I also have to eat a handful of lactaid pills. This prevents me from consuming LARGE amounts of cheese tho. Also... I started eating lots of processed meats such as bacon, ham and sausage. That shot my blood pressure up towards prehypertension. **SIDE NOTE** My blood pressure has always been around the normal high mark so it didnt take large doses of sodium to make it rise.

Anyways...these are the reasons I added some fruit and avocado. My bloodpressure is now fine and I'm still losing about 10lbs a week
I limit my carbs to 20 or less a day because i have about 40 more lbs to go. I'm still in shock really but I love this place!! I've found so much info from the boards here and the book. Its a relief to know that i dont have to be fat for the rest of my life!
My name is Teresa and I no longer crave the carbs!!!

    Re: Ignorance

That's an amazing weight loss story. I think the reason more people don't know about the benefits of Atkins is because it works and it's permanent.

The diet industry rakes in trillions of dollars of our hard earned money selling us promises and hope. If all of us knew that we could turn off our cravings just by not eating carbs and sugar--they'd all go broke in a heartbeat.

Not to mention the bread companies/pasta makers/etc. I remember all the fuss that came about when Atkins was a really hot topic of debate. The bread manufacturers were losing money hand over fist because no one was buying bread! There was a huge stink and loads of media coverage about why Atkins wasn't healthy for you--then the break makers started offering low carb versions and things leveled off.

WOW, Teresa! That's a truly incredible amount to lose in that short a time! Can I see your daily menu? 3 months for me hasn't take off that much yet!

By the way, DANDR does allow heavy cream & avocado on induction in limited quantities, just as it does a few other foods. The processed meats are discouraged - perhaps you will not have BP issues if you avoid food additives rather than food groups like meat.

Breakfast - 2 eggs and 2 pieces of bacon Or an omlet with maybe sausage, onions and mushrooms. (last week I bought low carb milk and carb friendly special K cereal) I measure EVERYTHING!

Snack - either 2 strawberries w/whipped cream, a stick of string cheese, or a kosher pickle

Lunch - 1/2 cup broccoli w/cheese or without (just depends on my cheese intake for the day)
1/2 avocado ( I only add this if i had less than 2 grams for breakfast)

Supper - baked chicken breast (boneless skinless SMALL breast fillet) and grilled shrimp( 5-6 medium sized) with a small salad

I normally have a small snack before bed....A few pork skins or a pickle

I'm hardly ever hungry...Sometimes I make myself eat. I drink 309486129781253185624 oz's of water a day. I always have a bottle of water in hand and I keep a can of Macadamia nuts in my purse JUST incase.
I'm 28 and fairly active ESP in the summer/spring. I went from about 400-600 carbs a day down to about 20 so yea...the results have been drastic. I'm definately not complaining tho!!
I also eat a carb smart multi vitamin daily
