  • Hi, I'm New!

Hi all- I have been reading the posts on this board for several months and I have no idea why I never signed up until now. I did Atkins faithfully for 6 months a few years ago and lost about 45 lbs and I felt wonderful. However, I settled down into a new relationship and got "comfortable". The weight came back on, plus some. I am engaged now- we haven't quite set a date yet but we are thinking possibly this December! That's why I'm here- I started Atkins again on Monday and I have been doing great so far but I am going to need some help along the way. I also have a question- As far as Induction goes- is it out of the question to snack on a few peanuts or pistachio's? I have read the carbohydrate content and net carbs is 3 per 1/2 cup. Just checking to see if this is out and if so, do any of you have any ideas for something to snack on?? Im getting kinda tired of lettuce, celery, and brocolli.

    Thanks!!

    Re: Hi, I'm New!

Many of us began with Atkins and read the boards before actually signing up, so you aren't alone!

If you haven't read the book, make sure you do so. You will find in the Acceptable Food List for Induction and the Rules of Induction, the guidelines on nuts. Hold off on them during your initial induction period.

Look through the food list for innovative ideas on snacks. A snack does not have to be lettuce, celery or broccoli. It can be a piece of turkey or cheese or a hard boiled egg, pepperoni or some other legal item.

While it seems like you have a specific weight loss goal in a given period of time, remember that Dr. Atkins discusses what yo-yo dieting can do to us. It is best to approach this program as a way of eating for life and not a "diet".

    Best wishes.

Hi Mandy! Congratulations on the engagement and becoming a member on ADBB!

Nuts are definitely out for Induction - they are an OWL rung. As for snacks, the possibilities are amazing! Veggies with ranch dressing. Ham rolled around a bit of cream cheese. Pepperoni and cheese (one of my favorites). Usually, I try to make my snack a little protein and a little fat, or a little carbs and a little fat. Just veggies is boring, I agree! Also, you really shouldn't eat the veggies alone.

What else are you doing? Have you taken your measurements? Are you exercising? What kind of work do you do? Do you have any kids or pets? What color is your hair? Post some pictures!! Okay, now I'm just being nosy!

      I wish you good luck!
