  • New guy here

Well, I guess I should start with my story...

I've always been a pretty big guy, I came from a big family (And by that I mean a fat family) But I was ok with it. I weighed about 250 lbs all throughout HS, but I was pretty healthy for being fat. I was on the wrestling team, I had friends, a pretty GF and all that. Then about half way through my senior year I realy started gaining weight. Most of it was because I worked at a Hardee's, I quit working out and all I did was drink beer, smoke weed and steel food from the store. In a years time I went from 250lbs to 380 lbs.

My second year of college I started working delivering pizza and taking alot of side jobs as a repair man. So I ended up working so much that I rarely ate and I got back down to 270 lbs. But then I started gaining again. I got up to 315 lbs before I finaly desided to try Atkins. I did kind of a half assed aproach. I didn't buy the book or go into it with a full understanding of how it works, I just thought I could eat meat and cheese all I wanted. It did work for a while, I got down to 297, then went back up to 305, then down to 300, then up again to 310. I did this for a month before I desided to buy the book and read it.

I started 3 days ago on the right track, I was at 302 lbs and right now I'm at 300 even. (I'm 5'8" BTW)

One of my biggest insparations is my father, he weighed 400 lbs 2 years ago. He had tryed many diets but could not stick with them. He had many medical problems then he desided to do something about it. He had Gastric Bypass. He now weights 180 lbs.

    Re: New guy here

Welcome, Big Si. You'll do well on Atkins, men lose faster and more consistently - it's a hormonal advantage you have over us poor females. Enjoy it!

Go and join the men's forum, I'm not sure what they get up to in there but we have great fun in the women's one! There are men here who have lost 200lbs+ and they can give great advice in your journey.

    My tips are:
1 Keep a journal - I use a diary. Write down all food, all exercise, and any major events that affect your mood, eating, health etc. It's a good thing to have and having to write down allyour food keeps you very accountable.

2 Avoid processed stuff like low carb bars etc. Try to eat fresh and prepared at home as much as you can

3 Plan ahead so you don't get caught hungry and foodless!

    Good luck with it.

Welcome to ADBB! So now that you are going to have lost all of this weight, are you still going to go by 'Big' Si?

We would love to see you in the journal chats forum! We need more guys around there. Also, we all love pictures so please post away - it's great to put a face with a name and we love watching people melt!

Hello Si!!! Welcome aboard! You sound like a man on a mission - we like that!

Meat and cheese only, huh? Nope, that's not the way it done!! You now know that! So, eat up those veggies and drink that water. You will be a great success - I just know it!

And exercise, my friend. A little walk around the block or more will do wonders for a diminishing waistline.

The Journal Chat or Journal Stat forum might be a good place for you. The Journal Chat is an open "diary" where other members can cheer you on and be a general silly group (we are very silly sometimes). The Journal Stats is for you along to post your stats or comments or whatever you want, without anyone else being able to post (except moderators, I think). Either way, it is a good way to keep track of how you're doing and how you're feeling.

        Anyway, I'm glad you're here!

Hi Big Si! Or should I say Little Si (from my stand point!)

Good move getting the book. ONly failures think they can do it without. Another key thing you need for success is a support group. And I know of none better for you than ADBB!!

I describe this as the Ultimate Man's diet! Lots of steak and salad!

I hope to see more posts from you!

Well, thanks for the warm welcome.

What are some of the best Vegatables to eat on this diet? Some of the ones listed in the book I've either never heard of or I really don't like.

Green veg are some of the best. And in that category, I believe Broccoli is one of the favourites.

Just out of interest, which veggies on the list are you not familiar with? They may have different names, depending on your location.

Of course the trouble with calling yourself Big Si is that you will not be Big much longer and will have to change your name!

I find the green salad ones are the best:-

                  Lettuce,
                  capsicum (green pepper)
                  spinach leaves.

I like to have tomato as well.

Put a little dollop of full fat mayo on it, or a little bit of cheese.
