Hi, just thought I would come and introduce myself... I am not overweight by any means, but I do want to lose about 15 lbs. and then maintain that weight by doing Atkins. I am 21, just over 5'2'' and 124 lbs. Around 10 years old, I really started becoming one of the "fat" kids at school and stayed that way until I joined the swim team in junior high, when I got down to a more reasonable weight for my height, but still was "chubby". Since then, I have found it reasonably easy to lose and maintain weight using calorie and fat restriction, however, I do find that it makes life a lot less enjoyable and difficult to maintain that type of self-discipline to not eat when you are hungry (even just a couple hours after a meal)... anyway, so about a year and a half ago, I weighed 110-112 and I had been maintaining that for a while, but I started putting on weight, mostly because I was eating more because I was sick of always being hungry.

I realize there are many here that need to lose weight and probably think it's silly of me coming here looking to just lose 10-15lbs because I want to... I think one of the most frustrating things is when people tell me I don't need to lose weight and that I am fine, because I don't feel "fine" or healthy with the way I eat and I have a very small frame to be carrying 124 lbs. It's very hard to lose just that last bit of fat, so I am hoping that I will find people here that respect that and don't tell me that I have an eating disorder for wanting to lose weight and gain a better eating lifestyle... I wish all the rest of you luck with your own personal challenges and goals as well, as they are likely to be very diverse!

Today is my first day doing Atkins and so far it is going well. I don't crave candy so much as I just miss orange juice, pasta and all those other supposedly "healthy" low-fat carbohydrate foods... I have to say that I love love love having cheese though (though I didn't go overboard with it)!

    Re: New here

Welcome, Amanda. We are happy that you are here! I think you will find that this Way of Eating (WOE, in case you see that around the threads) will eliminate your being sick of being hungry. This is a luxurious way of eating and you should never feel deprived!

Since you have so little to lose, just be warned that you may not have the dramatic weight loss that some members have experienced. With 15 pounds, losing 1.5-3 pounds in the Induction Period would represent a 10-20% loss. That is where most of us fall. Remember to take your measurements now, so you can watch your size drop as well as the pounds. Sometimes the pounds will be stubborn, but the inches will be quietly melting away!

Remember your veggies, your water, and your exercise. I'l sure you will be a grand success!

      Re: New here

Thanks for the welcome! yes, I realize my weight loss will be slower, but I am fine with that. I am committed to change my eating habits for good and get to the lifetime maintenance phase of atkins... it is nice to be able to eat such rich foods, but I have to admit I will be happy when I can start adding in fruit again! sometimes you need something to contrast all the richness, you know?

anyway, not feeling too bad... a little lethargic and out of it, but I suppose some people feel a lot worse and make it through the first couple days...

Dont forget rhubarb and pumpkin are both induction-legal 'veggies' on the one-cup list!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
