  • Hi - I'm new to this and have a question...

I started Atkins Monday, so I have almost completed my fifth day. It has been hard without my potatoes and ice cream! But I am determined to fix this body! I have 60 lbs to lose and I hope to get my blood sugar back down as the last time I went to the Doctor, it was pre-diabetic. And my blood pressure has been up also. So at 54, I am going to lose this weight and keep it off for the rest of my life!

I have a question. I got the ketose sticks to see if I was in ketosis. My purple is not very purple. Is that normal for just five days in? I have not cheated since Tuesday...(I did not know we could not have nuts during induction-but I only had a few...). When I printed out the list of items we can eat during induction, and found that nuts are not allowed, I stopped eating them. So how purple is it supposed to be and will it get more purple as the 2nd week progresses?
    Thanks,
    Cathy
**PS...I tried to post a picture, but I cannot seem to figure it out as I don't have a url to point to. Can someone tell me how to put a picture of me in my signature?

frist of all welcome to the adbb! welcome to induction!

it is normal for you not to be turning the darkest purple. some people never turn. i never got to the deepest color. if it's turning at all, you are fine, you are burning your fat. i always found i got my deepest color at the very first of my day. don't freak yourself out by testing 5 or 6 times a day.

do you have the book? that is essential.

the picture problem: you can load pictures to the adbb gallery right from your saved pictures on your computer. follow the instructions in the link to upload pics to the gallery from you computer.

you can also host pictures online with a photobucket account.

from the photobucket you will have your url to get the pics in your siggy.

    hope that helps!

welcome to ADBB and to Atkins. remember ketosis is like preggo either you are in it or you aren't it doesn't matter the concentration of that one type of ketone bodies in your urine, Check out our FAQ setion and see why those stix are not a great tool for weight loss.

Re: Hi - I'm new to this and have a question...

          Welcome aboard, Cathy!!!

Make sure you are reading the 2002 edition of the DANDR! This is very important, as it's the book we follow on this board.

As for ketosis, I rarely get above the mauve color, so don't sweat it!

Let us know what you are doing for exercise as well!

Just so you know, I just had my blood tests come back - my cholesteral, blood pressure and blood sugar were all down after 5 months of this way of eating! Have your doctor test you again 6 weeks after starting this way of eating to see where you're at. I'll bet you that your numbers are down!

          Good luck!
