  • I will need help. I have a lot of weight to loose

    Hi

My name is Yezmin and today will be my first day in the atkins plan. The fact that I have a lot of weight to loose is worring me (140 pounds). I don't writte english very well but I understand everything I read in english . I hope that this won't be a problem for me to be part of this wonderful family. I know that I will need all the help that I can get. And in the future, whenever I feel I truly understand this new way of eating; I would like to contribute to help and encourage others.

    Thank you for listening.

Hi Yezmin, Welcome! You'll find lots of support here. I'm finishing my first week of induction today. I have alot to loose too (215 pounds)! There are people here that have lost over 100 pounds so it can be done! Just take it one day at a time and before you know it those 140 pounds will be history!

Re: I will need help. I have a lot of weight to loose

Welcome! We all start into this WOE with doubt and anticipation. I remember the feelings all too well. I had 140 pounds to lose when I started this WOE. I can vouch to you that you can lose the weight.

Atkins works - all you have to do is follow Dr. Atkins plan. Read the book, Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, edition 2002. It will make everything clear as to what to eat and what to do and why it works. Drink lots of water, take supplements and exercise. If you commit to changing your attitude about improving your life-style...then you will win the battle.

Make a plan for your success. Keep track of your measurements as well as your weight. Sometimes you will lose inches instead of pounds. This will keep you motivated.

One thing that kept me on track was always having a plan. If I go somewhere, I plan it out what I'll eat and what I'll do. I always plan for any obstacles that I might come across. You have to decide to take charge of your eating, exercising and attitude. Nobody can do this for you, but with the help of all the people here in the ADBB, you will never be alone. Everyone here is helping each other do it together. There are numerous forums on health/life issues, motivation, encouragement and challenges that will inspire you and give you advice from others who face the same challenges that you might come across. We are all getting healthy and building our self-confidence.

YOU CAN DO IT> Make a plan and don't let anyone or anything stop you!! Best wishes
      Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

        welcome to the century forum.

Since you understand reading english so well make sure you read a copy of DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 edition.

So what exercise challenges are you joining for help with the mandatory exercfise part of your Atkins? all ADBB challenges are open enrollment so just find the ones you like and post in their topic telling them you are new and want to join.

there is a newer DANDR or you have Atkins Essincials written after his death?

if you have the Atkins For life it too has the same info as DANDR for induction but better glycemic index info from OWL as he ranked the carbs not only by rung but by fequency of eatting for minimal blood sugar impact.

            you skipped my exercise querstion

Yezmin! Great name! Welcome aboard the Atkins Train!

You can find the 2002 DANDR on eBay for under a buck . . .the newer version was revised after the Doctor's death by former colleagues who changed a lot of the material we adhere to.

I see that you've been reading a lot of different posts -- definitely check out the Exercise Challenges if you need motivation to get moving.

Good luck. I can't wait to see your successes.

                Welcome to the board!

I'm a curious soul, what is your native language?

I'm very excited that you read Enlish so well. That's wonderful and will help you find the great information on this board. I have seen Dr. Atkins' books in other languages, so if you can't find the 2002 in English, I hope you find it in your native language.

                Best wishes on your journey!

2bigformysize - I didn't find any walking or swimming challenge. Right now is all I can do. The truth is that I am to heavy to do someting else. In the near future I am planning to enroll in one of the forum challenge programs.

Lisa - My native language is spanish. I am trying to learn english on my own so is going to take me some time.

Thank you all for your warm welcoming. You don't have any idea how this make me feel.

Walking and swimming are great ways to start to exercise, Yezmin
You could join the 6 week exercise challenge, even though it has started already. Lots of people join after the actual start date so you wont be alone.

The rules of it are that we each decide how many times a week we are going to do whatever for us equals exercise.

So if you are in the situation where just walking once around the block is a big effort for you, then that could be your exercise. Maybe you could commit to doing that walk say, 3 times a week, and each time you do it you could post that you had exercised. The days you did not do it you can call a 'rest day' and if you are actually sick you can post a 'sick day'.

You say you swim - well that could be your exercise commitment if you prefer. Just pick somehting that you feel you can do and decide how many days a week you will try to do it.

Skyye makes a note on the chart of each time we post having done exercise as well as rest days and sick days, and at the end of the 6 weeks she posts the names of those of us who managed to succeed in exercising however many times a week we committed to.

I started out saying I would try to go to the gym and work out 2 times a week, and now I am up to 3 times a week.
I found that the 'accountability' of posting either an exercise day or rest day kept me up to the mark!

Here is the 6 week exercise challenge forum http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=97
This is just one example of the many exercise challenges around on ADBB which I mention in case it sounds a thing you would like to join in on

There are several other challenges here too

in case anyone else reading this thread is wondering how to get started.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
