  • Lurking for a long time

I've been lurking for a long time and have been hesitant to post. This is because I've tried and failed with Atkins many 'a times....The furthest I have made it has been 4 1/2 days on Induction (which I surprisingly lost 6 lbs). This was Monday-Thursday and 1/2 way through Friday a couple of months ago. My husband brought home pizza on that friday....I swear all 6 lbs came back that night!
Since then, it has been horrendously difficulty to get back on track. I seem to only be able to make it 1 day on induction and I end up falling off. So for that reason, I have never posted...I don't seem to be able to stick to it long enough...and I don’t know if I really wanted to keep starting again/stopping again "publicly" on this forum.
However though...I figured I'd initiate this first post and go from there....

BTW...I am a 30 y/o female, currently 225 lbs and looking to lose about 90lbs.

Welcome. So glad you've decided to join us.

It is scary to make a committment to change your life-style. I remember when I joined, I was hesitant because I'd failed at all attempts in my life to lose the weight. I thought the ADBB was so impressive. Thank goodness I jumped in and didn't look back at past mistakes. Everyone here is fantastic for giving advice and motivational support. The ADBB forums cover all issues in life - life/health, challenges, recipes, journals and advice. Most of all, it is filled with people working together to get healthy and lose weight. We are all in the same boat & understand the challenges of losing weight.

It is easier to stay motivated if you participate in the challenges, make friends and organize a plan for your success. Read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, drink water, take supplements and exercise.

Everyone wants to see you succeed. You can do it. We are all here to help you make it happen!! Best wishes!! Keep us posted on your progress.
    Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

Hi, welcome. Glad you decided to post instead of just lurking. Induction can be tough to get through but you got to 4 1/2 days so the worst was over. Ask your husband to try not to bring pizza home for the first 14 days, once that is over you will probably be content to eat the cheese and pickings off the top either alone or on a salad. Good luck, hang in there, and watch the weight go bye-bye.

Hey Quitstretching. Welcome to ADBB. I have tried and failed many times on many diets so I know where you're coming from. I'm glad you decided to post so we can all help support and encourage you here. I know it's easier said than done, but you just have to wake up in the morning and say "today is the day!...I will commit, I will not cheat, I am going to do this for me and my health." Just take it day by day...everyday will get easier and easier to stay committed. Just commit two weeks, just two weeks and see how you feel. I know you can do it. I'll be cheering you on all the way.

Thanks "inhisgrip", "Atkid" and "dreamof145"! I was pleased to check the board and see I had a few responses...I intend to give it a true attempt this time. Went shopping today and bought induction friendly items. So, tomorrow it is...I've taken some measurements, etc...I will add them to my signature soon.

Re: Lurking for a long time

I love your name, "quitstretchin'" Pretty clever!

You will not find a more supportive, understanding and informed group than the ones you will get to know here. We've all been where you are, and are at various points along our own journies toward heath, vitality and confidence!

            Glad you could join us!

Checking in here has saved my butt (literally) from cheating on many occasions. Although I don't post as much as I would like, I'm checking in at least 5 out of 7 days, and learning about new ideas, menu items, success stories... somehow cheating doesn't feel as deserved and self-indulgent (in a good way) the way it used to. I have many people that I've watched as they progress, lose and get more and more excited about themselves, and it just gets to be kind of contagious. At some point I started to feel a responsibility to the fine members of this board to keep my resolve to succeed strong and intact.

SO... NUMBER ONE: Tell hubby NO PIZZA (thanks anyway!). I'll bet by day 5 or 6 (at the latest...) you will be kicking yourself for how close you were to success the last time. You'll feel great, have tons of energy, and wonder why you ever doubted yourself.

In the meantime, take care, keep us posted, and know you have a 24-hour support network at your fingertips. Now THAT is what I call tools for success!

            Good luck! S.

Glad you decided to come back. I'm new to the board, but not Atkins. It seems like this board will actually help to motivate you to lose, so it may be easier since you have so much support. I pray you lose every one of those 90 pounds!!!
