Hiyas all!
So I've been reading this forum for a few months now...and only now do I actually post lol...it's one of those things you say you'll do tomorrow and just keep leaving it off!
Anyway, I'll introduce myself. I'm no good at statues and stories...but I'll try...
Like a lot of people...I had always been "the fat kid" all my life...tortured and teased at school...fortunately I was able to just scuff it all off until I went to University. I was hoping to lose weight before going so I could have a fresh start, tried all of my Doctor's and Nutritionist's suggestions with little to no success...it wasn't until this year (my fourth year) that I decided to look into a low carb diet. I had tried everything else and what really could be the harm?
I read through Dr. Atkins' book and decided to give it a try, but also realized what a challenge it would be. I took all my measurements...and, woefully mind you, stepped on a scale to see a whopping 285 lbs at 6' 3" tall with a 42" waist. I was, at the time, wearing anywhere between XL and XXL sized shirts.
So on Feb. 1st, 2006 I started my first day. I was worried the whole first week that it wouldn't work because I didn't feel any of the bad side effects that I had been warned of between these boards and the book. However, my first week ended and I stepped on the scale to see I had lost 5 lbs. The second week was the hardest! I found myself in a state where just looking at food would make me feel sick. I hated any type of food and just ate to keep alive as I had to force every morsel down my throat. Luckily, that was cleared up by the end of my 14-day induction where I lost a total of 14 lbs.
So...to fast forward...it is now June 2006 and after 4 months I have gone from weighing 285 lbs to 195 lbs! My waist is now 32"...down 10 inches! And instead of having to buy XL and XXL clothing I can go into The Gap or Old Navy and try on Small and Medium sizes! I had to have all of my jewellery resized as none of it fit me anymore...but it was worth every penny!
I am just 15 lbs short of my first goal. Once I'm 180 I'll be visiting my doctor to decide whether I should go lower (as my ideal body weight is between 155 and 200 lbs I have a long range to play with). Needless to say...my life has changed...I'm a totally different person than I was 4 months ago. I'm not afraid to leave the house...I'm not afraid to socialize...and most importantly...when I enter a public place it feels like I belong there...no one staring or laughing...it feels like I finally belong with the rest of the human race! (Not to mention the fact I've been whistled at as I walk down the street a couple times
)
Atkins has given me the greatest gift I could ever receive...a gift for living well.
I try to keep it short...but it looks like I've lost the battle and simply prattle...but getting to my point...I thought I would finally make a post after all this time and introduce myself and start replying to other people! Soon enough I'll have before and after pictures...I have a suitable BEFORE picture...but I need a new USB cable to get the after pictures off my digi cam!
Far la bella figura!
