  • Jumping in with both feet!

    Hi everyone!

My name is Christine, and I just started on Atkin's last Monday. I've lost 8 pounds and it's thrilling. I've been a "big girl" most of my life, but it's been in the past ten years since I've been married that I've ballooned like crazy. I'm currently at 282 and it's had more of an affect on me than just not looking good or feeling good. My self esteem is shot and I have turned in to a complete introvert. I'm terrified of talking to people I don't know and it's all but impossible for me to handle social situations. I used to be very outgoing and this phobia is horrible! It even took me several days of browsing this board to get up the courage to join. I want to succeed and I've read some of the stories others have posted and it's given me strength that I didn't think I had.

I started out reading the old Atkin's book, and yesterday I bought the 2002 version, along with the journal and the little carb counter booklet. It's proven to have been worth it already! I'm still confused about a few things, but I'm still reading and browsing the board for information too.

I'm really looking forward to meeting the members here and I'm especially excited about the prospect of this really being a way of eating that will work for me.

I can't wait to start posting and interacting with all of you!

Dearest Christine. Welcome to the group. You have shown so much courage already by posting. It took me awhile too. Getting through the first two weeks is the hardest but it is doable. The people on this board are miracle workers who are wise and kind and never judge which is amazing and most importantly they've been through it all and know what you're going through. When I first started I was sent off to the journal chat section where I started posting everyday. Why not give this a try so we know you're always with us as we are with you eh? Welcome!

Welcome Christine. Glad you found us and started posting. The biggest part of trying to lose weight is support. You'll get a lot of that here. Don't be afraid to ask questions 'cause it is confusing at first but over time it becomes second nature. What are you doing for exercise?

Re: Jumping in with both feet!

        Wow, quick replies

The day after I started Atkins, I started looking around for a forum, and after finding a few that were spammed to death, I found ADBB. Everyone seems so nice and supportive and that's precisely what I've been looking for.

As for exercise wannabthintoo, I'm just getting started on that. I do a little yoga and some weights (still very small...2lbs. for now), but I just cleaned my stair-stepper today and plan to start on that asap. Exercise is one of my hugest downfalls, and so I'm trying to start small as to not quit before I begin. I really do look forward to having enough energy and stamina to do serious exercise.

The exercise sounds good and yes, it's best to start slowly and build up as you get stronger. It sounds like you're all set for success.

Welcome, Christine...you'll find a lot of information, motivation, inspiration, and support on this board.

As far as exercising...there are a lot of challenges that are on this board that really help. I know when I first started, that was a great motivator.

Again, welcome and here's to your success!

Re: Jumping in with both feet!

Welcome. I was 285 pounds when I started Atkins. Its proved to be the best thing that I've ever done for myself. Like you, I had a very low self-image. I never went anywhere or did anything. I was totally ashamed of myself and watched life pass me by from the side-lines. Now, thanks to Atkins and the ADBB, My whole life has improved. I am going places, doing things and feel fantastic.

Everyone here is glad to help encourage you and share your journey to health and fitness. Don't give up. Make a plan to get through times when things get rough. Don't let anyone or anything come between you and your new life-style. Best wishes!

That's awesome for your first week. I agree with aggie that you should look into starting a journal. It is a great way to make new friends and gain support. Happy Losing!
