  • New Member..seeking advice & encouragement

Well, Ive finally decided t do it. Ive just gotta lose this weight. Hearing my husband and certain friends say "you're not fat" was just gving me an excuse to avoid the inevitable and remain in denial. Iam overweight, bt Im tall and perhaps I carry it better. However. Im at least 40 - 50 lbs overweight and its time to change that. Previous attempts at dieting havent worked because I simply lack willpower and not having my husband there to diet with me wasnt helping. My husband too is quite overweight and he has previously found success with Atkins and hqs encouraged me to do it with him. So here we go...

    Height 5'11"
    Current Weight - 190
    Goal Weight - 140

Its only been a day but this seems like a really hard diet for me to follow already. I find it hard to convince myself that I cant eat as many vegetables as I want. I love vegetables. I dont like meat, cheese and eggs very much so its hard to use those as the main source of my diet. Here is what I ate yesterday but I was still RAVENOUS all day:

Breakfast - 5 pieces of salami (no carb) with approx 1 Tbls cream cheese

Snack - 3 more pieces of salami with cream cheese

Lunch - Salad - approx 2 cups salad greens, 1/4 cucumber, feta cheese and oil & vinegar dressing

Snack - 5 small pieces of bacon (no carb)

Dinner - 2 chicken breasts (marinated in Teriyaki sauce), 1 cup of brussel sprouts

DH kept telling me to eat some more meat or eat some eggs if Im hungry but I dont like eggs and meat doesnt fill me up at all. Advice please!!

I keep wondering if Id lose just as much weight just eating lean meat and lots of veg.

    Clari,

Be careful of the cheese, and the preserved meats (salami & bacon).

    Try to go natural wholefoods.

Find a meat you like - maybe chicken and have more of that.

Like any 'taste' you can get used to more meats through time.

Remember this is a Way of Life, If you are not 100% sure you can do this for the rest of your life, then you need to find something that works for you.

I think you can do it, it's a great Way of Life to be on!

Im wondering if something that let me eat more vegetables would be just as effective. I just cant stomach eatings eggs, meat & cheese all the time. Id be perfectly happy to have a small portion of meat and a large bowl of veg at dinner but it seems like veg in any decent quantity are a no go on Atkins. I need to get filled up on something and I cant do that on Eggs and Meat.

Check out the acceptable foods list again. There are soooo many foods on it, there is never a reason to only eat eggs, meat and cheese. Plan meals with the foods that you like. Use substitute foods for the things you want and aren't on your list. I've never felt hungry or miserable on this WOE.

Instead of feeling deprived...Get excited about the foods that are allowed and the way they are making you feel good and look good. Best wishes. Keep us posted!
