  • introducing myself

    Hi
Just want to introduce myself. I have been lurking around these boards for about a week and decided to sign up. These boards have been a great source of information and inspiration for me during the last week.

I have not yet added my official stats, but here they are for starters:
    42 y.o. mother of 2
    5'8' tall
    weight 250
    goal weight 150

I have decided to take this situation under control and stay totally committed to the atkins WOE. I don't know how I got so big, stress eating, combined with reduced exercise and having to have my father come live with us- and he does not cook healthy. Lately I've been having thoughts of my weight causing health issues such that I fear dying. I want to be around for my children for a long time!! My doctor lost alot of weight on Atkins and suggested I give it a try.

So here I am, 1 week into induction. I haven't weighed myself, I am so afraid of dissapointment if the numbers don't match how good I feel. I just know at my last physicial I weighed 250 (the most in my life) and I decided to stop complaining and do something. I will get a scale today- and may hesitantly get on it in a few days.

Moving onto week 2 of induction- feeling good, but barely turning those ketostix. With the amount of weight I have to lose, I may stay on induction for greater than 2 weeks.

Anyhow, I'm happy to have found these boards- a great support environment for me. I love the advice from all those who have succeeded.

    Wish me luck!

    Welcome to the boards committed2lose!

Congratulations on your commitment to Atkins...if you're feeling better then you're already succeeding! Just remember the scale isn't the only way to measure your success on Atkins so don't be afraid of what it might say. And ketostix really won't tell you a lot. I know I never once was able to get those things to say anything but neutral and I was still losing.

If you need anything just give me a shout!

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Hello. So happy you've decided to control of your health and weight. I started at 285 pounds two years ago and I've never been happier than I am now. Atkins really works - you just have to stay with the program and follow Dr. Atkins' advice. If you haven't read the book, it is Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution - edition 2002. It will give you tons of information.

Make a plan to succeed. Write out your menus, take your measurements, devise an exercise plan that you can follow and visit the ADBB regularly for support and encouragement. You will soon be watching the inches melt away!! Best of luck and keep us posted.
        Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

welcome to ADBB! That's so cool that your doctor is supportive of Atkins, that's going to make it a lot easier on you! Make sure to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition. You'll learn HOW to do it the right way (and not the convoluted ideas that abound about Atkins) and WHY it works...it's pretty interesting stuff!

                  Re: introducing myself

Congratulations on taking the step! It has changed my life. I feel so much better. I sleep better, I have more energy, it is such a fantastic plan. My son wanted to go to Taco Bell for lunch, he said, are you okay with that dad? No problem. I didn't even want anything there. I bought his lunch, and he asked me when I would stop Atkins. I said, Never. It's my way of life! He said, even when you've lost all the weight you want, I said sure.

You can do this. Trust me it never stops amazing me how easy this way of life is. It is so cool to re-discover veggies and such that I had long ago forgotten.

So....have fun with it! You'll see the pounds come off. Don't worry about ketostix, or scales (you should only weigh once a week) just watch yourself morph into the beautiful person you know you are!!

Good Luck, don't forget to check out all the really cool recipes here too, experiment and ask questions!

                  See ya,
