  • Sorry I lied, I didn't mean to!

    Hey guys,
I know the other day I said I was starting on Thursday, but I cheated up untill now, so my new start day will be tomorrow. THe thing is, I don't want to make this a habit, like I have for the past 7 years. Am I the only one, who says, "I'm gonna start tomorrow" and tomorrow never comes? It just seems like I am always saying that phrase, and everyone else here is so determined! How does everyone do it??

just decide why you want to lose weight. If it's important you should start doing something about it. Be healthy and happy! I know it's not easy and there are days you just can't make it... but cheating is not going to help you.
And one thing: just be honest to yourself!
Good Luck and I'm here 100% to support you! And you can support me

The biggest thing that gets me side tracked is hunger. If you have chosen your start day have an Atkins meal ready for breakfast and eat it before you are so hungry that you down a carb food.

        Hi,
Though new to this forum, I am not new to starting a diet everyday for the past 5 years!!!

I think the committment is truly a mind set. You must be prepared to do this for the long haul. What I noticed on these boards is alot of people who have lost the weight they wanted, made it their goal and stuck to it- even if it took a year!

Put your mind to the task. I figure it's going to take me at least a year to lose the weight I need and it took me a long time to have the mind set to embrace that committment. Additionally I think doing Atkins is the right thing, as I will get to my goal while taking on a whole new lifestyle as it is not a temporary diet, but a lifestyle change.

Look for the mind set, and the rest will follow.

Lauren is right. You need to make a plan to start and write out what you will eat each day. This will help with procrastination. I was a big procrastinator - so having a written plan and guide of my exercise, water, measurements, and food helped me stay on track. Also list the reasons you want to lose weight so you can refer back to them daily and remind yourself why it is important that you lose the weight and get healthier.

BEST WISHES, please keep us posted on your progress. We all want to see you succeed....everyone here in the ADBB is working together to make it happen. Glad you've decided to join us!

Pick a date and the day before clean out your kitchen of ALL temptation. Give it to food banks, or give it to enemies LOL

Go grocery shopping with the list of acceptable foods and restock your kitchen with all the great foods you CAN have. Focus on what you CAN have instead of what you can not have. Check out this website and plan out some meals you can get EXCITED about. http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/

Make sure you have handy snacks available: pre-cook and cut up chicken, tuna salad, egg salad, vegetables sliced and ready for dipping.

Make up your mind to do it, prepare your kitchen and make your food DECADENT and you won't ever look back.

Re: Sorry I lied, I didn't mean to!

This is it! Having been ( by the sounds of your intro ) in the same place as you are right now too many times to remember - by starting a diet and then by the end of the day breaking it.
I finally decided this time on the 12th January 2006 that I would do it! I made a promise to myself that I would not 'diet' but I would change the way I eat. The first 2 weeks were extremely difficult, headaches etc. but I told myself that if I broke this time I would never diet again. This was it I was too tired and fed up of telling friends and family that I was 'going on another diet' . I thought and thought about all the reasons and came to the conclusion that I just want 'feel' slimmer and healthier. And I do - I am - Almost 7 months later and 50lbs lighter and now 'only' 25lbs to go and as an added bonus I feel sexier, more confident, much much happier, and you will too.
You can do it this is it, go for it
                  Good luck, keep posting

I think everyone has said everything I was gona say! U definately have to be commited and determined. Write a list of why you want to lose weight. Get some piccies of urself at ur largest and put them up in the kitchen, at work, somewhere that you will see if everyday. It will be a constant reminder of where you DONT want to be, overweight, unhealthy and unhappy.
You are taking a positive step in the right direction and you have tons of people here to support you. Clear out ur kitchen, stock with legal food and make sure that every meal and snack is written down and planned so you dont get caught out. Use Fitday.com to count ur carbs everyday. Take each meal one step at a time.
                    You can do this! xxx

Re: Sorry I lied, I didn't mean to!

Starting tomorrow is a common dieting myth. It splits your current eating habits into two categories, that which you should not eat, and that which you have to suffer through on the diet. It's the wrong mentality all together.

Last week I knew I wanted to 'hop back on the diet'. I had pancakes for breakfast, extra syrup, followed by some candy. Boy was I sick. I went to bed and passed out all day which is normal for me and sugar. When I woke up, I realized just right there and then that I didn't want to wait until the next morning, that I was going to start right then. I knew it didn't matter what the calendar said since I wasn't going to be hopping on the scale anyway.

Sure enough, within about 4 hours I felt like my old normal self, energized, no hot flashes, no dizziness, self rightous affirmation of success, etc... By the time the next morning came, it wasn't a matter of 'starting' it because I was 'already' on it.

I was starving of course and had my usual baby carrots. About 3 days later the horrible hunger pangs went away, the horrible taste in my mouth returned, and I knew I was back on track. It's so easy when you think, OK, this is it, I'm going to start right now.

Not after the ice cream is all gone, not after the cookies and cakes are gone, not after somebodies birthday party. No excuses, just start this minute. You know you want to, and the pride in yourself happens SO quickly, that the first week will pass before you know it...

                      Give it a try...

Re: Sorry I lied, I didn't mean to!

I actually had no plan to start Atkins. I just woke up one morning and said to my husband, "I'm starting Atkins today, will you do it with me?" And that was it. I hadn't been thinking about dieting, I just woke up tired of lugging around this extra weight, and ready to get it off. We still have illegal food in our home, but just leave it alone. I hear a lot of people talk about eating up their stores or going on binges before starting. That seems self-defeating. Start today, stay the course, and you'll see everything fall into place within time.
