  • This time I have to succeed!

I'm new to the board but not to Atkins (in 2002 I lost 50 lbs). I'm here more for my health than to lose weight, although shedding some weight will be a nice benefit! I am married with two boys ages 9 and 17. I have a cocatiel named Emily and an Iguana named Drake (trying to get my son to donate him to the zoo). I was dx with Diabetes in 2004 and rode the river denial until now. My blood sugars have been running between 300-500 sometimes over, but my a1c was 11.5. My doctor told me that I needed to be on insulin-4 shots a day at least. I cried and cried and told her that I was not going on insulin! I finally convinced her to let me try it on my own (not completely, I'm on oral meds)...I was on insulin in 2004 and gained 30 lbs in a month.

I decided to start Atkins again...I've been in induction for almost 2 weeks (this weekend I had a small slip but my sugars remained below 200). I've been exercising with a trainer for a year now and plan to continue, but, in order to keep my sugars down I have found in the past two weeks that I need an hour of cardio per day, at least. I have two months to prove to my doc that this is do-able without insulin. My weight has been stuck at 170 and my goal is 140.

I am an emotional eater...this is tough because carbs are my chill pill. I'm having a tough time with patence...not sure if it's carb related but I'll need to control my emotions better. It makes sense, before I'd eat a candy bar now I have to actually deal with it.

I'm excited to get to know everyone and looking forward to my new life on Atkins.

Welcome. You've come to the right place to get healthy. Everyone here supports each other. Its easier to follow the plan if you have others to encourage and motivate you!

There are two forums you'll want to check out....Diabetes and low-carb eating and emotional eating, both in the health section of the forum. Best wishes and keep us posted on your progress!! If you have any questions - be sure to ask!

Slow and steady is all it takes. Don't worry that the weight doesn't come off as fast - It is more likely you'll keep it off forever if you follow the plan by the book and don't rush things. Be sure and check out the Diabetes and other health threads, too.

      Welcome back to Atkins!
