    Hello everyone, today is my third day on Atkins... I started on Monday and let me tell you, I have not been getting positive feedback from the people around me. They are all so negative and looks at me like I am a freak for doing this.

    I did weight watchers a few years ago and gained all but 4 of the pounds back. (I stoped exercising and started eating everything in sight ) I tried the master cleanse and couldnt last past a day. I have started back working out, I try to do the gym at least 3 times a week and 2 mile walk in my neighborhood 2x a week.

    I started Atkins with a family member and we are each other's encouragement, but I am hoping that I can find support from this message board as well.

    Way to go on your new adventure on Atkins! People around me were also saying how unhealthy this diet is and how *they* could never give up bread.. One of my co workers even told me she saw statistics where people died from doing Atkins!! Sometimes I think I'd get more support if I told people I was anorexic! But it's your body! You have to take charge.. Most people don't know how this diet works.. They assume all us Atkineers are chowing down on a pound of bacon every morning and washing it down with a few sticks of butter.. Of course, we know better!! Keep up the good work, and definately come here for support!!!

      Welcome to the ADBB, Cleanse. You will surely find all the support you need here to stay motivated while you do what is right for YOU. Don't worry about what other people say; they may simply be un- or mis-informed about how Atkins is done, why it works, and may base their opinions on rumor, advertising hype from fad diet companies, or simply lack of information.

      You will need a copy of the 2002 edition, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, and please be sure to read the stickies on induction so you can do this properly. Best wishes for your losses!

          Hello and welcome!

          Don't worry about those people! You do what YOU need to do. I posted somewhere several months ago when I first started this WOE. A year and a half ago I started doing Atkins. I lost 40 pounds or so, a nutritionist that is in our family told me how awful it was on my body. How terrible I was for depriving myself of certain foods. Just add small amounts of this or that back in. 8 months later I more miserable than ever, gained that weight back, plus another 30 on top of that. I reached 295 pounds. I couldn't sleep with out waking up at night due to poor circulation. I was tired and lathargic at work. I hated myself every night for eating the way I did. Finally......I stopped listening to everybody else, got out my book, read it, re-read it, found this wonderful wonderful forum, talked to these fine folks here....and here I am, down almost 50 pounds. Those 50 pounds will never ever come back again. I will LIVE my life to the fullest. I'll go to my grave defending this WOE. When I'm hungry, I eat. I eat good rich meats and veggies, I drink soooooo much water! I sleep all night, the love life has gotten AWESOOOOOOOOME! Wife is very very happy! There is nothing anyone can say that would make me believe the 'critics'. You do what YOU need to do, and laugh all the way to your goal weight when they tell you you're wrong!!!

              I had a personal trainer/body composition person tell me a few weeks ago that people who do Atkins drink a gallon of bacon grease and go around with their eyes twitching because it attacks their central nervous system...Seriously,that's what he said! He then asked me what I was doing to lose weight, and while I didn't say Atkins, I described to him induction, then OWL and he enthusiastically said "That's PERFECT. That's exactly how you should be eating!"

              Ignorance. Pure ignorance.

              Good for you for doing what you need to turn your life around and be healthy! The people here are fantastic and will support you and cheer you on, and give you tough love when you need it. You've come to the right place!
