Re: another newbie for the day

Okay I'm on day 2. My husband is being fairly supportive. He's not doing atkins but supporting my WOL. I know I can convert him when he starts to see the results I've seen on this site! Anyway, he wanted to go to DQ for icecream (for himself) last night and I told him if he did that I would have to leave. I was slightly joking but I did feel it was unfair to bring up on my FIRST day of this WOL. Sheesh! Anyhow, question for the day.... is beef jerky okay? I remember reading something about it back when I had the book but I think I sold the book at a garage sale...so it looks like I'll need to get another one...but can't do that today... so is beef jerky okay on induction?

          thanks for any help!

            Hi and welcome Gabrielle!

Most beef jerky sold in the store has sugar in it, making it a no-no. I see no reason why you couldn't make your own at home though!

Gabrielle, jerky and stick sausages you can check the label on - the ingredients vary somewhat. You should avoid processed meats anyway. But you can eat them in a pinch, if you determine they don't cause you to have cravings; just be sure to count the carbs. I made homemade jerky before starting induction and knew there was no nitrate or sugar, and it served me well along with porkskins and sipped LOTS of bouillion the first part of induction. Especially day 2! It was a quick transition.

And, if your DH gets ice cream, you can have a shaved ice with sugar free flavoring...
