  • Hoping this will work. . support needed!

I am so impressed with the support shown in these discussions! I am not normally a person who writes on them, but I know I need some advice and support this time.

Here is my BRIEF story. .

I am 43 years old, professional mother of one wonderful 20 year old son. I have been single by choice since he was 8 months old. I come from an overweight family, so it is a daily struggle for me. I am on anti depressants wellbutrin (10 years)and effexor (6 years), ad well as hormone cream(2 years). I maintained my normal weight 130-145 lbs for about 16 years after my son was born. I was never "happy" with my weight. but not ashamed. In 1997 I had a hysterectomy, and in 2001 I had the ovary that was left removed due to endometreosis. Since then, my weight has been UNMOVABLE!!!!!!! I gained 25 lbs almost immediatly. (1 month or so). Since then I have been on weight watchers, starvation, and every diet pill known to humans. NOTHING works! I am very commited to this program, so I will be honest and ask all of you for support and advice as I go through this. I weight 167 today and want to get back to 135 -140. I admit to being VERY depressed, and not real motivated to excersise, as NOTHING has made a difference. It is hard to be motivated when you cannot have even slight success. I am really, really struggling. If someone? or more than one person? that has struggled could "hold my hand" through this it would mean the world to me. I have so many questions but If I am fortunate enough to have you still reading after all of this whining, I do not want to add any more! I will ask my questions at another time!

God bless you all for hearing me, and I look forward to all of your advise!

Hi Teresa and welcome to ADBB and Atkins!

You'll get all of the support, advise and experiences you'll need to be successful and lose your weight!

If you're on Induction now, then I'd recommend checking out the 14 Day Induction Forum in the Phases section of the board. The mod's there can answer all of the Induction questions you have! And there are many other members sharing the experience with you!

There are great exercise challenges too...check out the Exercise Challenges in the Atkins for Health section of the board!

Welcome Teresa! There is light at the end of the tunnel. You can do this! Get the book, it is an excellent read from cover to cover. Stick with us here at the board and post often.

Hey girl! Your story was very touching to me, you see I also in the past have been so depressed about my weight I just didn't even want to look in the mirror anymore! But you see, this had made me realize it is not only a change w/in yourself but a whole lifestyle change! After a few days of being on induction, you will feel such a difference in your body and attitude. Also, with the 'no motivation' for exercise. Wow, I've been there, too.. we all have, don't worry! This is what I recommend though, just get up and move. Do housework, plant flowers, water your garden, park farther away from the door at the store.. ANYTHING!!! Once you feel more motivation and confident, then you can start adding in "Oh, I'm going to take a walk for 20 mins today, etc". I really enjoy doing Tae Bo, not sure what kind of exercising you like, if any right!?=) This is a fantastic site and I welcome you! WE can do it!

          Sara

P.S.. something I found that is extremely important on induction is don't eat after like 6 or 6:30.. if you get the urge to eat something, drink a full glass of water first and then wait and see if you're still "hungry". I have a major problem with food addiction, last night was the toughest night so far. I want to eat, but I KNOW I'm not hungry.. I got through it, was strong, and today I weighed 3 and 1/2 lbs less then yesterday! There's so many people here to help you.. but want it for yourself! =)

Teresa, as far as the sticks are concerned they are an indicator that you are burning fat. As told, its like being pregnant, you either are in ketosis or you aren't. So if your sticks show any range of color you are in ketosis. I find my ketosis sticks in the pharmecy department of Walmart in the diabetic section. They run about 7.00 or so.

Hey, I noticed you said in another thread that maybe TOM was coming on since you were spotting. Ketostix says not to test during period because it will give you false results. So maybe you are in ketosis and it is not showing.

Teresa, the first 3 days are the worst, hang in there and it will get better quick. The tired will quickly turn to energy. Just wait and see! Make sure you are meeting your water quota for the day, divide your weight in half and match that in ounces of water.Drink, drink, drink!

                            Hi TeresaC ~

Welcome to the boards ~ you have come to the right place! It is one big family here - everyone is so supportive and kind. I just started on Induction (again) last week and i am down 6 or so pounds already! Other people have lost even more in there first week (check out that Induction forum!) You might also like the forum for women's issues. Especially with what you have been through, bless your heart! I have endometriosis as well, not bad enough to warrant surgery, but i know how painful & miserable that can be. Thankfully, with the birth of my daughter, it has drastically reduced in the amount of pain i get now!

Keep coming to the boards & posting. Look at the Before & After pictures that people post. That is some serious motivation right there. Also, try finding a weight-loss buddy. I met mine last year on these boards and she is just wonderful! I think there is even a forum to find mentors or something! Check it out...

You CAN do this! We are all here for you!

                            ~ Jenna
