Hi everyone. This is my first time doing Atkins. I tried doing Southbeach before this but gave up within a few days. I think it's a little too lenient for me, if that makes sense. I guess it's just that if there's more stuff to eat, there's more of a possibility to screw up. Or maybe that's just me.

Anyway. I've kind of had a history with weight loss. I'm currently 5 feet tall and weigh 250 lbs. I know, that's a huge amount for someone so short. I'm surprised I'm not dead already

My weight gain is really my own fault. I never eat out of depression. In fact, when I'm depressed, I can't stomach anything. I just never exercised before. And although I don't eat very much during the day and when I do, I eat healthy, I have this horrible habit of binging at night. I've heard of NES (Night Time Eating Syndrome) but I don't know how real that is. But that's what happens to me. I'm careful during the day but at night, all heck breaks loose and I eat like there's no tomorrow. And so I've gained a lot of weight.

I'm hoping Atkins would help teach me discipline and restraint when it comes to food. Today's my first day. So far so good. I haven't craved any carbs at all so far. I never do in the day time. But it's night time what I'm afraid of.

I'm extremely serious about losing weight. I've had enough of putting everything off just because of my weight. It's time to take action!

You are so awesome for making a choice that will effect the rest of your life! I am really excited for you, you are going to look back on these days and see such a huge difference and be so thankful you stayed the course. I dont know much about nightime eating disorder but I know you can atleast eat or snack at night and its okay. Thank you so much! And as a matter of fact, I could definitely use a hug right about now! My cravings are starting to kick in (and it's only been half a day so far) but surprisingly, they're not as bad as I thought they'd be. Since today's my first day of Induction, I guess I'll see how well I fare tonight.

              Welcome to the ADBB!

I can relate to your nighttime eating problem. My downfall has always been wanting "a little snack" while my hubby and I watch our favorite tv shows. Well, as I'm sure most here know, those didn't turn out to be "little" snacks!

You're making a life changing decision and that's so wonderful! There's an abundance of information and lending hands here, so jump in and feel at home! I suggest starting a journal in the journal chats section, I've found mine to be very helpful!

                Re: I WannaLoseRealBad

Thanks! I think part of the reason why I'd always fail on the South Beach diet was because I kept it all to myself and when cravings started to hit, I wouldn't tell anyone and as a result, nobody was able to encourage me. But I'm learning from my mistake now.

Hi WannaLoseRealBad and welcome to ADBB!

Yes...I know about the late night eating, I had the same problem.

I'll tell you right now, it'll be difficult for the first few days...just like breaking any other bad habit. Just work really hard to spread out your 20 carbs through the day dont save them all (or majority) for your evening meal...so you won't experience blood sugar spikes right after dinner and into the evening. And another trick until you lose that "evening munchie habit"...go to bed a bit earlier...just go to bed, really...it helps!

Don't forget to include a lot of water and get your daily exercise in! There are Exercise Challenges going on all of the time, so join in and have some fun!

Hope to see you around the board!

                          Re: I WannaLoseRealBad

congratulations on making a huge step thats going to change your whole life! ONe thing I learned, and I probably say this over and over on this site, but this is a LIFESTYLE change you have to make. I was aweful, eating when depressed, when bored, and oh buddy did I have the night time bingeing as well. I got so disgusted at myself that I am more determined now than I ever have with losing weight. Been going to curves, and absolutely love it. You truly have to keep your head in the goal of your direction (one bit of that ____ ) can set you back to the begging, again. We can do it! It will be a week on Tuesday since I started induction and I'm down 8.5 lbs! I cannot believe it! I feel so much lighter and my mental state is so much healthier. Drink lots and lots of water. I read somewhere on here you want to drink half your weight in oz of water. I weighed 300 when I started here and I drink around 100 oz of water.. that's not even enough yet! It's crazy. But it will definitely be a benefit to helping you with your weight. I've had to set a rule for myself. At night, I do NOT go into the kitchen. Also, I've worked so hard with my will power and I don't eat past 7-7:30 at the latest. That's made a huge impact with my weight, it's unreal! Anyways.. just wanted to share some things that have been working for me... have strength and will power.. WE all can do it!

I just got back on it to and its a great diet!Be sure to read the induction info,i just yesterday found out you should stay away from the advantage bars witch really blows because the only reason i ait them was because they were easy for me at work .But i still lost 7pnds in 5 days ,i just think it could have been more? If you choose to eat them read about what others went through .And just do it one day at a time it gets so easy,im on day 6 and headaches way over with i feel great and my appetite is gone i have to try to remember to eat! This will be you soon, Dodi
