    hey guys .
my name is shannon im 31yr old male,,yea i know i have a girls name blame my mom for that.anyway ive always been that big strong guy ,i was 6ft in like the 7or 8th grade so i was always bigger then most of my peers and over weight, but i wasnt a lazy fatboy, played sports,,my weight was never an issue i was that big guy and it didnt bother me,had plenty of friends, once i got out of my shell i dated pretty girls so i never realy cared i carried my weight well as ive been told.then when i was 22 i broke my back in a car wreck eating pain pills and fast food i added more then a couple of pounds,,at that time i was weighing right at 300lbs thats 50 more then in high school,,,and i was still very active,,had a active job climbing up and down laters standing long hours,,it was no big deal,,,just that big guy as always,

then there came the birth of my daughter and i started looking ahead to the future thinking about quitting smoking, stop drinking so much, maybe loose some weight, but none of that hapend haha i was just kicking the idea around for about 6yrs,,
i went on the best diet in the world,,,the hartache diet got down to like 260 and was feeling really good...my back didnt hurt i was wearing clothes i havent worn in years,,and i maintained that for a year or so,,slowly gaining weight a lil here a lil there,,but still feeling fine about myself...now im living eith a great girl shes younger then me little bitty thing and but she loves to eat out plenty of pizza and hamburgers,,,,so in the last year ive gained all my weight back plus some to boot,,i bet im around 350 if not a little more,,and i can feel it im getting lazy, harder to do everthing im use to,,then came the nail in the coffen,,,my girlfriends dad came to stay with us so there were camers every where taking pics,,,,i seen pics of me and it was heart breaking,,,the body image i had in my head and the truth in the pics were 2 way diffrent things,,,,soooo im on day 2 of my induction gave up all my cokes, well im only allowing myself 1 diets soda a day,,thatsa huge jump from 5 or 6 reguler cokes and gaterades a day,,,,
this plan wont be so hard im a huge meat eater anyway so all im realy giving up it the sweets and bread,,o and french fries,,haha thats the hardest oart right there,,,, i know its peobably not a goodhting but there isnt to many veggies i eat,,,ill eat salad,,,and thats it,,,so i dont know where im gonna get my 20 carbs from...anyway sorry so long,,i just relized ive never talked about my weight before and all this stuff wanted to come out,,,crazy anyway thanks and i guess ill see ya around

WEll welcome! I know it looks like a huge neverending saga right now, but just put on yer long-term glasses and go for it. Set yourself small goals, and dont use food as rewards. You can do it, if you are willing to pay the price. Best Wishes!!

Welcome to the board my friend. Sometimes it takes a look from the outside in to really get the picture. So thats what happend, you saw a picture of yourself and you saw the truth. I'm a 37 year old woman with 7 kids ages 20, 18, 17, 16, 10, 3, and 19months. Not to mention my 3 one year old grandkids. I've never been as small as I wanted to be and its always been hard for me to diet with all the baby having I did. I did Atkins not too long ago and lost a total of 28lbs easy after I found the world of carb free living. I'm just now coming back since Monday and so far I've lost 8lbs. That puts me at 294lbs my goal weight being 145lbs. So as you can see it works if your truly ready. Good luck and I hope to hear from you soon!

Hey! I had a similar situation. My "head" thought I was thinner than the pictures told me. I still have self-confidence, always have, and always will. That's the most important thing to have when going on a diet...because sometimes confidence saves you at your downfalls...or when the pounds aren't shedding like you would like. Good luck in the weight loosing! And, keep all of us posted!

                  Re: from the dirty south

Welcome! Excellent post my friend. Sound like your committed!! What's really cool here is, after you lose 20 pound or so, post your before picture, and then your after picture! You will see the compliments come in and it makes you even more motivated! Great job on cutting down to one Diet coke a day. If I may offer a suggestion, if you are planning to continue to do that, switch to Diet Coke with Splenda instead of the regular diet coke with aspartame.

Trust me, the carbs will add up. Pretty soon you'll be like, 20 carbs...wow I already hit that today!!! Remember the most of your carbs should be coming from veggies (salad veggies on induction) don't just stick to meat and cheese. Always be eating those veggies bro!!

Drink lots of water too!! We can't state that strongly enough to everybody just getting started!! I swear it works!! 200 ounces a day I drink, I keep bottled water in my truck, in my desk, in the garage.....and always drink a big o glass of water prior to eating!! you're body will adapt to it i guarantee!!

Good Luck and keep us posted Shannon.

Hi Shannon and welcome to ADBB!

I'm glad you decided to look at Atkins, it's a great way of eating!

Hey, and since you're just a salad guy, maybe you could do some experimenting on the Induction veggies and find some new favorites...give it a try!

Hey Shannon! I am glad you were able to get that stuff off your chest and are ready to start a healthier way of life. I am not sure exactly where you are from, but I am also in the "dirty south" (Nashville, TN) and it is hard to be Southern without eating the bread and potatoes (darn those french fries!), but you can do it! And I am like you with the whole vegetable thing: I only really liked salad, but I have learned that I love some broccoli and cheese, and green beans go good with everything.
