  • Hello Everybody!!!!!

    Hello everybody,
My name is Thomas. I am new to this board, and to the Atkins diet. I have been on the program for about 3 weeks, and have only seen no weight loss as of yet. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, or if my body has yet to adjust to the new lifestyle change. I have completely cut all carbs from my diet. All of my meals consist purely of protein. For breakfast I will eat 3 hard-boiled eggs, for lunch it is lean meat only, as well as for dinner. Am I making a mistake by not including some veggies in my meals? I could really use any advice you can give me.

    Firstly, welcome to the board.

Secondly, unfortunately you are making a HUGE mistake by not eating any veg. You need to be eating 3 cups a day of "legal" vegetables.

Thirdly, Its advisable for you to buy DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution Book) 2002 edition.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Hi Thomas! Welcome to the board.

You really need the veggies in your diet because they do have the necessary carbs to help your body rid the fat. Drinking water and exercise are all essential as well. Do you have the 2002 edition of Dr. A's book? There are many reasons why our body doesn't lose weight, it could mean hidden sugars, extra salt, new medicines, stress, etc. are causing it. I suggest getting in the water, veggies, and exercise and check your weight in a week. There is a section in the book on people with extreme slow metabolisms...you might want to check that out.

Best wishes on your journey, and again, welcome to the board! I hope you find some great encouragement and help along the way.

For the best results on induction, follow the good Doctor's instructions. You need to keep the carbs (excluding fiber) below 20g /day while convincing your body that it is well fed, otherwise it will latch onto your body fat as if life depended on it. Your daily food intake should consist of frequent meals no further than 6 hours apart during the day. Each regular meal should include some vegetable, protein and fat, with end-of-the-day proportions of 5%, 30% and 65% respectably during the induction phase. This should get you into ketosis in a few days, and your body will burn fat primarily for fuel. If you have too much protein, your body converts it into carbohydrate, and defeat this purpose.

Welcome to the board - make yourself at home, read stickys and ask questions. This diet works when used as directed. Read the instructions, you will succeed!

                  Welcome to the board!!!

I have been on Atkins for just 2 weeks so i'm still a newby here too. Besides all the advice you got from the pro atkineers, I'd suggest you to get a free account at fitday www.fitday.com so that you can keep track of what to eat and watch for the carbs, this was a great tool to me to help me get started... since sometimes we eat things we think are ok, but they aren't!

As others said, read the book, review the list of acceptable foods, and stick to it, and if you have any doubts about any specific foods, just come and ask before you eat it, so it wont be too late, the people here are great, and you'll always get a response fast.
