  • New to the Atkins scene.

    Hi Everyone,

I have been reading your messages for weeks. I am starting Atkins tomorrow. I tried it before but I failed. I needed support and someone to talk to and compare notes. It looks like I found it. I need to lose about 60-80 lbs. I really want this to work. I am looking forward to making new friends with something in common. My biggest downfall is sweets. I love dessert, snacks, ice cream and especially chocolate. Butter is also a favorite, but I guess thats okay now! Good luck to everyone out there. I'm sure we'll be chatting.

    Welcome to , Maureen!

Glad you popped in! There's so many awesome forums here for you to join in!

I'm sure as you've been reading on the board, having Dr. Atkins 2002 edition of his diet is essetial to following this way of eating correctly. Induction is priceless and very important to follow correctly as it's your lead into determining your road up the OWL rung of the foods.

Exercise is the key to this way of eating as well as vitamins and water.

    Best wishes on your journey!

        It's a life road...lol...

For me, it's been since April 2003. I've thrown myself under the bus so many times giving in to stress factors of life since then that I finally had enough last summer and started working on me. Of course stress didn't end...I'm a college student/mom/wife/etc..lol... This summer I've worked on me from the inside out. That's where my eating issues start. It's no longer trying to have a healthy life and not being a fat teacher (when I grow up..lol)...it's all about doing.

I wish you great success, Maureen! I know you'll succeed as you find your inner core of strength and detemination!

          Maureen,

Welcome! I'm a new member of the board also (about 1 1/2 weeks), but a 2nd timer doing atkins. I had no idea this board existed when I did atkins the first time - lost almost 50 lbs., then got pregnant with 2nd child and binged for 9 months!!!! Now I'm back on the atkins lifestyle again. My daughter is almost 18 months, so I guess it took me that long to realize I couldn't live with the extra weight forever!!!

We have something in common, I AM A HUGE SWEET ADDICT, hence the screen name "sweetaholic". I could eat pastry all day and be soooo happy. Well, I guess I must have actually done that because I have about 80 lbs. to lose!!

You will receive a lot of support here. Everyone is so wonderful and the recipes people post are a huge help. I have met a lot of great people and have been inspired by everyone of them. I have a special friend who I write to almost every evening. We keep eachother posted on how were doing and give support when needed. She has been a true blessing.

If you need a support buddy feel free to private message me anytime. I have already made one terrific friend on this board and look forward to making more. Take care and good luck.

Thanks, I'll probably take you up on that. I guess we do have sweets in common. Pies, cakes, cookies, candy.....okay I'll stop. I guess I'll have to. I am determined to do this. I have a 15 yr. old daughter who wears a size 3 and eats like it's going out of style. The food will never leave my house. My husband has a healthy appretite too. I'm a little nervous about this whole diet thing too. I really don't want to fail. How long have you been on Atkins? Thanks for the note.

Re: New to the Atkins scene.

The first time I was on it for 10 months. I had begun living the lifestyle for the rest of my life. Then I became pregnant and thought "Hey, this is my last pregnancy so I'm going to go all out and eat what I want!" HUGE MISTAKE!!! I guess I wasn't as devoted to the lifestyle as I had thought because you can be pregnant and nurse a baby living on a modified version of atkins. I believe I am now ready to commit fully to the lifestyle, no more excuses. I need to be right? I have 2 kids to take care of and I can't risk my health by being fat any longer.

Re: New to the Atkins scene.

Welcome to the board, it's a great choice. I have been on Atkins for 3 weeks, sometimes it gets hard, but it's totally worth it.

I also like sweets, but doing Atkins doesn't mean you'll never eat them, once you continue doing atkins and move from the different stages of owl, yo'll be able to have some "sweets", this is modified recipies, to make them low carb friendly, and you can find them on the web (I am on extended induction, but my bf that's already on owl where he can eat berries does this great blueberry muffins for example). But this also can be dangerous, since they can trigger cravings... that's why it's so impotant to do things correctly when you start (and by this I mean by the book!, reading and understanding it's the most important thing in this diet... if not, you' could be doing things wrong and you wont understand why).
I wish you all thebest in this journey, and remember, doing things by the book is the secret to success while doing Atkins.

                    Welcome to the boards Maureen!

Dark chocolate was always my downfall...still is Can't and won't go anywhere near it ever again. It's a hard road at first...especially since you can't even visit a grocery store without having chocolate shoved in your face at the check out counter! Drove me nuts for the first couple weeks, but soon you'll be broken of the cravings and addiction and you won't even be phased if you see someone eating a chocolate bar near you. Believe me, it's a great feeling to not be addicted to sweets!

If you need any help, support, encouragement...feel free to give me a shout!

Re: New to the Atkins scene.

                      Welcome Maureen,
I am not a sweetaholic, I am all the other carbaholic, white bread, all forms of pastry, cold beer, potatoes and stuff like that....all that stuff.....
I too have a 15 yr old daughter, but she is 170lbs due to my very poor example. My wake up call came at the end of vacation and I was just plain tired of it all. I was irritable and up and down emotionally, full of eating everything in sight, constantly exhausted, and stressed because I was giving this all to my daughter on a silver plate, and she was happily eating right along side of me. She starts week 2 of WW today.
Today is the start of my second week! I am just thrilled to have that first week behind me. You have ups and downs all thru that first week. It is a long one! But, when you come out on the other side of it, you should be so much stronger, and finally settling in and feeling good about things. Struggles will be here for me today, but I feel momentum has really grown this week and given me a new strength. I am not tired, I am not fully energize, but it is 6:20 in the morning and I am up and facing my day very early. No naps this week, tho the fatigue was huge. I feel such changes in my life outside of food, because of food choices. The foods I eat today, will actually provide me with a better day emotionally and physically!!!! What a great benefit! That is my revelation (my rev) today. Work hard, stick strickly to the plan...Work on the water, take a walk, eat right, fight, fight, fight....You will get thru today...There is no free pass, it's hard work but the reward of working hard for what we want is very satisfying.

Glad you joined us. This is my second time also and I am a big sweet addict. I had a lot of trouble staying on the plan last time. This time I am following the plan exactly as it is written and I am having a much easier time and have lost more weight. I also started exercising during the first week on induction.

Good luck on your journey and we are here if you need us.
