        Re: Please Respond

Hi there.. Pat urself on the back, You came here.. that's a pretty darn awesome first step if you ask me!!! . This is such an awesome community here... support, encouragment, inspiration, motivation, u name it.. you'll find it here.

I just want to reach out and hug you because I know what it's like to want to just sit and cry cuz' you are so disgusted and upset with your weight. But I have found out, once someone is determined enough w/in themself they will make the lifestyle change to change themselves. I was totaaallyy an emotional eater, night binger, u name it.. I LOVEEEE FOOD. But unfornately I ate the wrong foods.. carbs carbs carbs.. and now I'm doing something about it. Something that helps me not eat when i'm stressed or depressed is just staying out of sight of food.. no walks through the kitchen, no "oh just one bite",etc. I still battle with night eating SO bad. If I don't stay out of the kitchen past like 8 o clock at night, I will literally drive myself insane til I eat something, it's terrible. I have a food addiction, kicking this addiction is one of the hardest things.. but I'M DOING IT! AND SO CAN YOU!!!!!!!!

Read the book, it will definitely help and get your mind set in the right path. A strict induction with lots of water will do a mind and body so good! DO NOT think about how much you need to lose, or what you are at now.. think about 1 day at a time. That's what I do, if someone ever says something like "Oh you'll be able to fit in that by spring," I just tell them to shush their mouth because I don't think about next month or in a year from now, or even tomorrow.. I take it one day at a time, because even that is a struggle at the least sometimes. A strict induction and tons of water.. you'll be surprised how it will change your outlook after 2 weeks.
        With determination, anything is possible..

We all can do it, can't wait to hear your progress.. let us know how induction goes for you!

        Sara

Hi joteddie and welcome to ADBB!

You know, the best thing you can do is replace those bad habits with new ones.
*get up and go for a walk
*drink a big glass of water
*open up ADBB and look at the before and after section
*open up ADBB and chat...get support!
*like fyler said...read and reread the book!

It's hard when you're first starting out, your body is fighting you...you just need to remind yourself why you're changing your way of eating and continue doing that when you get a craving. It really does get better with a little time.

          Hang in there!!

I completely agree with everything thats been posted for you.

I also felt so helpless and frustrated over allowing myself to get overweight. The best thing about finding the ADBB is that now you will have others who are going to do this with you. You won't have to be alone and feel that nobody cares. WE CARE. We want to see you succeed.

Read the book!! Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution-edition 2002
            Drink lots of water
            Take supplements
EXERCISE - walking was my beginnning exercise. I started 1/2 mile a day and worked up to 4 miles a day.
MAKE A PLAN. Write out when and what to eat. Write what you'll do when someone tempts you. Write out what you'll take with you in your purse or trunk so that you aren't tempted when you are hungry and those around you are eating things that aren't on your plan. Every day...tell yourself you are going to do it.
Come to the ADBB as many times a day as you need to get inspiration, information and motivation to make it happen.
MEASURE yourself every few weeks so you can see the inches dropping off.

Ask questions. Make friends and join the challenges. IT will happen. You will find all the support you need 24/7~!
            Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

You are making the first step just being here! My grandma always ould say "any hard work takes a pick and a shovel". I try to remember that. I also have a picture of me at my heaviest on the refrigerator, so hen I go there it makes me think twice about hat I'm going to do hen I open the fridge. It actually has really helped me. Please stay with the board. I can tell you it has been an amazing strentgh in my own battle. You are in good hands here and always have a place to come when you are feeling weak. My best to you and I hope to talk to you more on the board. Hugs to you for a great job!!!

                  Re: Please Respond

Well, it is true. Coming here is one of the first steps to a new way of life. Or something.

No matter what you decide to do, just remember that everything takes time, hard work, and occasionally, a little bit of luck. I say, make your own luck.

What I used to do, when I would get cravings, is come here. I got the support I needed to stay on the program, and browsing the forums taught me new ways to prepare some of my favorite dishes, and introduced me to some of my new favorite dishes. Vegetables will actually become some of your new favorites. So very versatile.

I also had my bracelet. I made a promise to that bracelet, and I told myself that as long as I had it on, I would reach my goal. It's only come off twice, once, because it almost busted at work, and another time, because it actually did bust. But, this bracelet has never left my side. And I have never broken that promise to myself. You'll come up with some way to do that as well, whether it be a smaller pair of jeans hanging on your closet door, or a not-so-flattering picture of yourself on the fridge.

And you may slip, but it's also not the end of the world. However, if you do mess up, don't tell yourself "Hey, I'll just start again tomorrow" because that is what messes people up all the time. One mistake doesn't mean you can go out and keep making that mistake. Don't let yourself fail.

Just keep your fridge stocked with good, whole foods, fresh meats and cheeses, some hard boiled eggs, and other low carb substitutions, and make sure that you never go shopping on an empty stomach. Those first 2 weeks of induction will be done in no time, and when you see those first results, you'll realize just how easy it really is.

Oh, and make a photo log of your progress. Because if you don't, you may regret it. I know I did. I couldn't find any before pictures of me, because I hid from the camera, and now, I can't show off my progress.

I am proud of you, for deciding that you want to take that first step, and we'll be here to help you out and cheer you along.

welcome to ADBB from a former 300+ pounder.

The beauty of Atkins is after you make it to about day 4 your ketosis symptoms will kick in and one of thenm is appetite suppression! Also on Atkins whenevery you are hungry you eat so you don't have to worry about being hungry and can you make it without cheating to the next meal like you do on other diets.

if you are an emotional eater you will need to do a who what where when why and how you were feeling before during and after you ate journal too so you can identify what your triggering events are and then take steps to eliminate that trigger from your life until you have better control of yourself.

                              Hey Joteddy,
Welcome, welcome, welcome. Everything you have read it true. We are not informercials, we are real people. This plan really works because we have all messed up our system, and our bodies can't burn up all our carbs, so they store them as fat. We are all fat, and then when we changed our way of eating, took out the carbs, and replaced them with the foods on induction, we actually flipped a switch inside, now our bodies burn our fat as fuel, and it has taken us to new places of peace with food.
So much so, we can stick to this plan.
The first 10 chapters of the book you need to get explain this. Dr. Atkins does a beautiful job of explaining what has happened to our body and why we can't achieve weight loss and why we are crazy in the emotional realms, and how removing sugars and processed foods will change things dramatically on the inside.
You will feel so much better than you can possibly believe in a week, and then the further you go, the better you will feel. Everybody here is telling you the honest truth, because we are you, we have all come here defeated by food addictions, sugar addictions, and we were miserable. We are not miserable any more. You won't be either.
the first week will be hard, you will feel worse before you feel better, but then by day 3 or 4, something starts to happen, it's this good feeling you might not be use to, it starts to pop up in your day... Soon you find yourself smiling and feeling better and better, in these tiny little ways. It's true, we promise.
The advice above is the only way to these good places.
Buy the book, read the book, plan for your induction and go.
Drink the water required, soon you will just love that water
Exercise in some fashion and build up slowly.
Come here daily, post, read joing in and make friends and walk to gether on this journey!
No compromise with any of this. Find a way to bring these things into your life, at all cost and then you will move forward and you will be welcoming newbies and telling them, "IT WORKS" because it does.
                              Jess
