  • new to board.

    hi everyone,
My name is Karen and I live not far from london, U.K.
Been on atkins 3 weeks today, lost 5 pounds the first 8 days and then up and down a pound each day since and no weight loss at all last 2 weeks.....am i doomed??!!
I have the book and am following it as far as i know. My twelve year old is also on the diet with me and he is losing a bit quicker than me, he lost 7 pounds the first week and is slowly losing about a pound per week now.
I am worrie about a 12 year old not drinking milk so let him have a cup a day from the middle of third week. i am hoping i will posting this time next year saying i have lost 2 stone, i need to lose 3 stone to be happy.(am 5'5') and weigh about 14. 7 right now.

Hi Karen. Welcome to the ADBB. Everyone's body is unique. Some lose the first few pounds and continue to do so. Others lose a pound and gain a pound and then lose two or three pounds at a time. If you are doing the plan as it is written in the book, then you will see a loss. Have you taken your measurements? Sometimes our body holds water and we are losing inches even when we don't see pounds dropping. Especially at your TOM.(Time of the month). One thing you might want to do is add additional exercise to speed up your metabolism. There are several challenges in the forums that you can join to help motivate you and make friends.

Your son can find lots of information that is informative to him in the TEEN FORUM. Neither of you have to do this alone. There are lots of resources here in the ADBB and in Dr. Atkins book that will help guide you to your goals.

Hi, kudos for you and your son with him following the plan with you. Have you tried Calorie Countdown Milk. It is a lowcarb milk substitute, has alot of calcium and comes in regular and chocolate. I have not personally tried the regular but know alot of people use it. My 12 year old daughter does like the chocolate so I buy that for her rather than than the normal sugar laced chocolate milk. Good luck to both of you.

Welcome to the board Kary, from someone else who is not far from London (ok, about 100 miles from London, but not far in comparison to most people here)

          Good luck.

              Welcome Karen!

Be sure to read the stickies in the Induction forum, especially the one about weight loss not being linear. Those stickies helped me so much when I first started. You might post your menu in the 'Review My Menu' thread to see if there's anything you can tweak to be more successful.
