  • Here I am again

    Hey guys.

I posted on here before a while back. I was just beginning the low card diet but I gave up because I just didn't have the patience and I figured what's the point of doing this when it probably won't even work me.

Well now I'm 18 years old (male) and I weigh 280 pounds. I have a BMI of 50 which is considered extreme obesity. Since I've posted- I've just been eating what I want to. But everything is just going down hill. It's hard for me to go out in public because I'm worried about everyone judging me. It's a challenge to look in the mirror anymore because I know it will just ruin my day. Pictures? Forget it. I get extremely angry when someone takes a picture of me. I CAN'T look at photos of myself. I live in this fantasy world of what I WANT to look like to others when in reality I'm a big disgusting mess. I guess what really hit me today was when someone said "Drop 100 or die young."

I'm going into college and I'm so afraid of making new friends because it seems nobody wants to be friends with the fat guy. My life is just miserable and I need a change SO badly.

I didn't read the Atkin's book yet but the problem I had with reading it was I was afraid I would do something wrong. I'm looking on this forum and it's just extremely overwhelming. I don't want to do all this work only to find out I've been doing something wrong. But I need to do this so I'm going to read the book and I hope you guys won't mind me asking stupid questions.

I'm sorry about the sob story, I just really need this to happen for me. I'm also very impatient, so I hope you guys can keep me encouraged to stick with it. It's time I started to discipline myself. I can't live this life anymore.

Thanks for taking time to read this!!!

PS: I don't have the book and I probably won't have it for a week. So what do you suggest I do to start out like- tomorrow or the next day? Should I just drink water and eat no carb foods?

Hey karma, i'm new here too. Welcome! I think it's so great you've decided to make the choice to take control of your life and what you eat. I started atkins at 18 just like you during my frosh year of college. It's a great time to start a whole new life: new friends, new foods, new attitude, new body! Once you start this diet and really get into the meat of it (i know, bad joke) you will see how not overwhelming it is... i find life on this diet much less overwhelming than life off of it... As for starting right away, go to www.atkins.com there are plently of articles and descriptions of the induction phase to get you started till you read the book. Everyone here is so inspirational and supportive, it's a great place to come when you are feeling overwhelmed. Good luck! Feel free to contact me if ya need a pick me up! Can't wait to hear about your progess!!!

        Re: Here I am again

Welcome! Glad you've found the ADBB and have made the committment to read the book. Make sure it is the Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, edition 2002. We all go into a weight loss program hoping it works. The good news is that Atkins really does work as long as you do it. Until you get the book...check out the Induction forums here at ADBB and at the Atkins website. Start doing exercises. Even walking in place to music and doing indoor exercises helps. As long as you move and burn up calories...you'll start to feel better and it will help shed the inches/pounds. If you won't take photos to inspire yourself, start a journal and take your measurements. This will help keep you inspired as you see your body shrink. And it will.

Read the motivational forums here at the ADBB and make friends in the Teen Forum. It is filled with other people your age. Having people who share your interests and who are making it happen in their lives really helps. Everyone here wants to see you succeed.

Drink lots of water. Make a list of the acceptable foods and only eat from the list for at least 2 weeks. Don't look back, think about the future. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
        Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

            Re: Here I am again

            Hi karmacode,

There are some great forums here on ADBB and if it's all overwhelming right now, then find one and stick with it until you feel more comfortable. Maybe the 14 Day Induction forum or STAC (second time around club).

The biggest piece of advise is DO read the book, and if you make a mistake the world will keep on going...just learn from the mistake.

Other advise, exercise...something...even a short walk to start, consistency is the key there!

Print out the induction acceptable food list, stick to that and you shouldn't have questions about 'what you can eat'...follow the rules and you'll succeed!

Glad you're here, and we're all here to help each other get through this journey.

            See you around the board!
