  • Hello to all!

My name is Leslie and last year I did Atkins for the first time between May and November I lost just over 100 pounds. Well around Thanksgiving I "fell off the wagon" and have been fighting tooth and nail to regain myself but have failed. I was not very concerned because I was maintaining my weight well that is not the case now and I can not handle it. So as of yesterday I am doing this again and this time I am sticking to it but could use some help. The last couple times I have tried to go back to it about the fourth or fifth day I start craving sweet food and I just cant seem to get past it any suggestions would be GREAT. Good luck and congrats to all.

    Re: Hello to all!

Welcome - you CAN get past that hump! You are only cheating yourself out of getting into ketosis if every time you approach that threshold, which is when your body, running on carbs, runs out & demand a carb load! That time period passes quickly if you hang in there! The body WILL SWITCH TO BURNING FAT, and the cravings will subside, and your energy level will pick up. During that first few days you cna also she a lot of toxins, fluids and electrolytes, giving rise to "induction flu" feeling crummy. This can be hard on the will power, but it can be overcome by staying full of such things as chicken soup, pork skins, and other induction list foods (withing their respective limits), and plenty of water!!

Will help with advice/suggestions when possible, but it is up to you to carry thru.

    You CAN DO IT!!

      Re: Hello to all!

Take baby steps. Do induction for two weeks. Just two weeks until you feel so much better, are in control of food again, and in control of your life. Can you commit to two weeks?

Boonie nailed it for you with what's happening to your body. And I wholeheartedly agree that you are only cheating yourself by not sticking through it. Just when it gets the absolute worst and you think you are going to go nuts because of the cravings...that's when the body is just getting ready to switch. If you'd only stuck it out a few more hours or even just one more day...you would have been past that.

Because you are here with us now, we are going to help you get through it this time. When you get to the point where you have lost your will in the PAST, come here and post. Come here and read the success stories. Come here and look at the before and after pictures. Let us know that you are struggling and we will help you.

Remember: You can have excuses or you can have results. You cannot have both.

        Re: Hello to all!

        Hello and welcome back!
I'd say don't let yourself get hungry (but don't go overboard!). Always have something legal on hand to help you get over the cravings when they hit. Focus on the delicious things you CAN eat, rather than thinking and salivating over the things that aren't allowed. Try to distract yourself from cravings by doing something else...anything: exercise (the best distraction), watch a film, pamper yourself.... whatever.
Hang in there... you can do this. In a surprisingly short time you'll find the cravings will diminish.
        Here's wishing you every success!

          Re: Hello to all!

The first step is to make a committment to yourself to do it. Remember this is a permanent life-style change. Read the forums, join the challenges, and make friends here with the people who are making it happen.

Figure out why you are jeopardizing your weight loss program and make the necessary changes. I knew I had a problem with portions, so I bought a smaller bowl and plate for my meals. It helped me to reduce the amounts of foods I was eating. Whatever it takes, do it. You are worth it!! You can do it. The ADBB is a great place to get the support and motivation you need. Best wishes....keep us posted on your progress. Everyone here wants to see you succeed.

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

Leslie, gosh, you've been so successful so far. You as much as anyone has seen how well this plan can work. And, you've clearly also lived through the sweet cravings and other "side effects" before -- and BEAT THEM. You can do it again!

Glad you plan to come here if you feel like falling (or jumping!) off the wagon again. I can almost guarantee that if you post that you are in immediate need, within 5 minutes SOMEONE will talk you out of it!

Take care and hang in there!

                Re: Hello to all!

Ugh!! I know exactly what you are talking about! I just got through that! I ditched my favorite, constatly by my side Coca cola, and the sweet cravings were awful! (I'm sure the caffeine cravings were in there too, I just couldn't find them because the sweet cravings were so strong!) I found a Celestrial Seasonings herbal tea that is sweetish tasting... it's the sugar plum fairy one, and it's almost impossible to get except at Christmas time, but I'm sure you could find something similiar. I limit myself to two a day, but it did the trick and seemed to satisfy the sweet craving that was about to kill me. I hope this helps! Just remember, when there's a block in the road you can usually find a way around it! Don't give up!

Welcome to the board my friend. I know that it gets hard to fall out of old habits, but the support that the board brings makes the journey a whole lot smoother. If you need someone to talk to I'm here for you. God bless and keep you.
