  • Hi. New Here, but 2nd time around on Atkins

Hi, I'm new to and have enjoyed reading for quite a while, and now it's time for me to get to it. It's exciting to be here where there is so much success, support and knowledge of the Atkins' plan. I'm ashamed to say that this is my second time around on Atkins. My husband of 25 years loves to follow Atkins as well, and we enjoy cooking up fantastic Atkins' recipes together. We have fun with it, and I feel fortunate to have him as a diet partner and great support. Other than each other, we have no support in our families or friends. In fact, we are met with opposition, and they are rude to us when they find out we choose to follow Atkins. Although it's hard to ignore it, we do so to keep the peace. We have never made a big thing about our diet to anyone, but they find out when we make our food choices. We keep each other on track during our weak moments, but after each keeping 70+ pounds off for over two years, we became lazy together and stopped counting carbs, and then later, started to eat things we shouldn't have. Soon, we added breads daily, and I can't do that yet, if ever. Once I do, that's it--I'm feeling starved and out to eat it all and then some. At this point, nothing fills me up. When I stay on plan, I'm never hungry. I also have a hard time making it through stressful times in my life, so I'm ready to work though that. With my Atkins NDR book and highlighter in hand, I'm ready to do this. I'm ready to get off the expensive high blood medication again and use that money for new clothes. I'm ready to feel all the healthy benefits again. I'm ready to stay on Atkins through this long weekend. I'm ready to stop planning which halloween candies I will buy. Oh, and I love my treadmill, so this week I've dusted it off and have started to use it daily. I am no longer winded when I walk short distances. I already feel great! Thanks for listening, Babs

No shame at all for coming back, I did it
Its true that most people around us aren't eating this way and most do oppose it only because they are ill informed about it. The best way to show them is too just do it and lose the weight and watch the blood pressure drop. Welcome back!

Hi Babs. Welcome back! Your very lucky to have your husband doing the program with you. You'll always have a partner to cook and exercise with!

Have you written out a plan of success yet? It helps keep you focused to write out the steps you are going to do to reach your goals. As for the negative people, let them read your DANDR and then they'll understand what you are doing. Many people have heard that Atkins is only butter, mayo and meats. They don't understand the program because they've never read the book. They'll soon be in awe when you and your husband lose the weight and show them how healthy a low-carb program is.

You'll both find lots of information and support here in the ADBB. Keep us posted on your progress and Happy Low-carbing!

Hi Babs This Is My Second Time Around And I'm Feeling Quite Blessed To Be Able To Have The Support Of This Board! I Know That Atkins Works For Me So Therefore I'm All About Doing It No Matter What Anyone Else Has To Say. I Recently Went To The Doctor For A Checkup And I Told Her I Was Doing Atkins. I Said This Is My Sixth Week And I've Lost 16lbs. She Said That She Was Sending Me To A Nutritionalist Because The Diet Was Not Healthy. Boy Talk About Your Misinformed. Well I Decided To Just Keep Following My Plan And Skip That Appt. I'll Just Do What Dr. Atkins Says. I Belive He Knows What He's Talking About.

Re: Hi. New Here, but 2nd time around on Atkins

Hi All, Thanks for the welcoming to ADBB and the great support. Well, I'm shocked. I made it through the labor day weekend without cheating, a family dinner and stress, all at the same time. LOL
Dreamof145, I do need to get busy and write a plan of success; that would help me.

At dinner, two of my biggest Atkins' Diet critics were not so bad this time, since they have quit eating bread, just bread. I told them they were weclome to read my DANDR, but they would have nothing of it. LOL Oh well, I'm so happy I'm losing. Like you said jacksuncle, "The best way to show them is too just do it and lose the weight..." So true!

              Thanks a million .

Re: Hi. New Here, but 2nd time around on Atkins

                    Welcome!

I must say that the help of your spouse is great. My wife (TammyJo) helps me out everyday. She makes sure that my breakfast (part of it I eat 2 times in the morning), with my vitamin next to it. At first she was against Atkins because she didn't like it. After me finding this boards (Thanks to Jimmy More and Kent.) She was shocked and told me she wanted back into Atkins. We help support the other on it.

The board offers GREAT encouragement and help. I feel as I can be open with everyone here and not hiding anything. If I cheat I know I will get support from everyone here on how to beat it for the next time. If I am not sure on something I know I can post and ask others for input. I hope to see you over in the Second Time Around Club (STAC).

Tammy's and My docotor told Tammy and I both we should do a MODIFIED Atkins diet. That Atkins was not about veggies. Boy was I shocked at that. But thats how people are. What they don't know they take what they have heard and try to make facts off of it.

                    GOOD LUCK!
Mouse? I don't need no stinkin mouse!

Oh for sure, msbombay we will support each other. I see you're new to Atkins' and I'm a STAC (second time around club), so there's a lot I have to recheck first since I developed a lot of bad habits. As soon as I am perfect at to what is right and what I was doing, I'll be of more help. But one thing for you to do is find the Induction Group and see if there's a food list. Then don't go off that lists and follow that. Also, get the book. Have you checked out the Halloween Treat challenge yet? I'm there. And with your doctor's advice, I'll bet once you start following Atkins', you may not need a water pill. Keep in touch! Babs
