  • born again atkins virgin

So, I'm 23 years old. I'm trying atkins for the third time. It worked the first two times I did it, but i did it wrong. I thought that i would just stay in induction for a really really long period of time (6 months)..to lose the maximum amount of weight possible. By not transitioning out of it and moving onto OWL, I got sick of the strictness of induction and crashed. This time I'm going to do it right.

My starting weight is 184. 10 pounds heavier than I've ever been in my whole life. So my SW is also my HW. I belong to a gym and have been going daily for the past week. I try to work out for at least an hour. My overall goal is a minimum of a mile on the treadmill daily, although recently I've been doing quite a bit more.

I'm not going to weigh myself for two months...the scale is discouraging when it doesn't move. Also, by choosing not to weigh myself for two months, that means I'm comitting myself to at least two months...I can't quit before that, I'd have no reason to.

Also, if i wait two months, i think the scale will have moved enough to motivate me more.

The hardest part for me, is this is a complete lifestyle change, i went from eating whatever is around when im hungry, drinking heavy amounts of beer daily, smoking cigarettes daily, and not working out, to...

    no smoking
    no drinking
    daily workouts
    20 carbs or less
    10 glasses of water daily

I'm happy to have this bulletin board available to me for support, and I appreciate everyone out there who is willing to provide some, and I hope to provide support in return

    thanks,

        Welcome to ADBB!

Good job on no longer smoking and drinking!
Later on the rungs, you can add small amounts of alcohol back, if it doesn't stall you.

        Good luck!

Welcome to the board, Carbless! One thing I tell most new starters to remember -- it's not what we weighed at the beginning that defines who are. It's the work we do to correct that and the dedication we put forth that does. Use Fitday to keep yourself accountable, and commit yourself to doing the next 14 days correctly and strictly according to the rules.

You will be that much further ahead and will have demonstrated control over your eating. If you can control it for 14 days, the rest is just perservering and doing the same thing. Take it one meal at a time, and you will definitely succeed.

                Re: born again atkins virgin

Welcome to ADBB carbless! You can do this, and we are going to help you do it.

                My advice to you:
                1) Focus on what you CAN have instead of what you CAN'T have.
                2) Seek out yummy recipes and plan to have one meal a day a true treat. Use this site as a starting point: http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/
                3) As you said, do your two week induction clean and move into OWL and add food back. When you do this, you'll have variety which will help keep you on track.
                4) Change your way of thinking to positive things. What you will look like at goal. What you will feel like. How you will eat for the rest of your life. Picture yourself at functions where you are making smart choices to eat. Picture yourself at birthday parties, weddings, christmas parties, etc. eating Atkins style. VISUALIZE it over and over.

As for quitting smoking...you do it just like the carbs. Just stop eating the carbs, and stop smoking the cigarettes. The nicotine will be gone from your body in just 72 hours. In two weeks, you will be free of cigarettes and carbohydrates. You can do it for two weeks. After that 2 weeks, you are FREE!

I'll be glad to help any way I can!

QUIT SMOKING JULY 23, 2006 while on Atkins

Just when you think you've eaten enough vegetables...EAT SOME MORE!
