  • Goin' on a Cruise, Gotta Lose !

I've been following the Atkins board for awhile and I have to say that it's been great motivation to change for the better. I've decided to come out of the lurker closet and to start posting. Recently (2 months ago) I was at my highest weight ever of 176, with a 5'4"frame, what's more to say. Two months ago I started hitting the gym like a maniac and I have to say I've seen great results, now I'm down to a slimmer 160 lbs. The weight training of an hour and half a day resulted in not only weight loss but many many inches. But I'm in need of a more dramatic weight loss.

I'm going on a cruise on Sept 30 and really need to drop about 20lbs. I'm hoping to find some friends out there who can keep me motivated and help with some great tips. Seeing as how many people are doing so well, it's gotta be they way to go. All in all, my husband and I eat very healthy, no processed foods, very little sugar, we drink plenty of water and tea...but yet, I found myself packing on the pounds over a three span (i was always a comfortable 135 lbs). I found it to be a lack of exercise on my part, so hopefully Atkins can help me get back to where I was.

Welcome, Kate. Sounds like you've had great results at the gym so far -- good for you! Clearly you are dedicated to making a change.

You might find some people who are concerned about your goal to lose 20 lbs in less than a month -- and thinking that Atkins is the quick fix to do it. As you've probably read, a lot of folks here consider Atkins a lifestyle, not a quick-weight-loss diet. However, it may indeed give you the results you are looking for (though I'd have to guess not quite as quickly as you are hoping -- when you don't have a lot to lose, 20 lbs in one month is a LOT to expect!).

I do find it interesting that you have lost your weight (and inches) through mainly weight-training. Does that mean you haven't been doing any cardio -- only weights?

    Good luck to you.

I have shifted my attention more towards weight training than cardio, which only gets about two days worth of time for about 20 minutes a week in comparison to the weights. I'm trying to reshape and sculpt my body rather than just losing the weight. I'd rather weight 140 lbs and be a shapely size 8 than a 130 lbs and a size 10-12. As for my goal of 20lbs of weight lose in a few weeks, I do realize its a little extreme, but I want to challenge my body and see how it takes to the Atkins diet. Looking forward to the induction, Day 1 is here.

        Welcome Kate,

I started at a similar point (163), but it has taken nearly 3 months to lose 20 lbs. I exercise nearly everyday for 1 hour and watch what I eat. So, 20 lbs in a month maybe expecting too much. Keep working at it!! I wish you every success and a nice cruise.

Congrats on your 20 lbs. I know it's not easy to drop the weight, I know, it took me two months to drop the 16 pounds without dieting. Don't get me wrong I was watching what I was eating but I wasn't going to any extremes. It's a long road, but all well worth it for a piece of mind.

Good luck to you; don't just lose it "for a cruise" .. lose it FOR GOOD.

Great job with the exercise; that's certainly a huge part of long-term success.
