Anyways my name is Chris i'm currently 23 years old and I'm currently deployed in Iraq with the Marines as their Navy Doc. I've been overweight my whole life, i even had to lose weight to join in September 2001. My weight topped around 235-240lbs between 2002-2003. In july 2005 my co-worker introduced me to the low-carb diet. Since i was out of Navy standards and failed 3 times my career was on the line. Desperate for another chance at losing weight i had nothing to lose. i started after my birthday in August 2005 at 5ft 7in and 235lbs. in 1-1 1/2 months i dropped down to 195lbs. i continued with the diet and added supplements and dropped down all the way to 166lbs February 2006. after i went on vacation in the phillipines i was on and off on the diet but was still able to maintain my weight. a few weeks to a month before coming out here in Iraq i decided to let loose and eat whatever i want because i already promised myself i would rededicate myself to the diet. i came out here in July at 185-190lbs. I restarted induction slowly by just cutting carbs out of my diet the first week and then going cold turkey the second week i was out here. currently as of 10SEP06 i weigh in at 163-164lbs, i lost all the weight i gained and i surpassed where i left off at in february. anyways my goal weight is 145-150lbs and work myself back up to get that lean cut six-pack appearance. i workout every night for 30 minutes just doing light weight exercises and hitting the bench press. the supplements i currently take for my low carb diet are : l-carnitine 500mg, omega complex, psyllium seed husk, coq-10 100mg and chromium picolinate 500mg. i take 1 of each pill three times a day and i bought them all from gnc.com. i drink between 8-9 1.5liters bottles of water each day and i use one small crystal light packet each time. do i starve on my diet? no i eat pretty darn good, i just eat smaller meals because i'm always drinking 1.5 liters of water at each sitting which fills me up.
here is a sample list of what i eat in Iraq at the chow hall.
breakfast- 2 fried eggs, chicken, tomato and cheese egg white omlette and 1.5 liters flavored water.
lunch- 4-6 ounce roast beef steak, 2 turkey slices with cheese, 3oz egg salad, 1 serving steamed green beans and 1.5 liters of flavored water.
dinner- 1 serving steamed broccoli, 2 turkey slices with cheese, 3oz egg salad, grilled chicken breast with cheese slice and 1.5 liters of water.
anyways at the rate i'm going and losing 1-3lbs a week i should reach my goal before i leave to Iraq. i do reward myself of course and have whatever i want for one meal once a week. Since my day off is Friday i usually reward myself only at lunch by having whatever i want; fried chicken strips, ice cream, cheese cake you name it. but the breakfast and dinner of that reward day would still be low carb and the next day i'm back on my diet and i just pretend it never happened. i guess i lost weight pretty quick because i'm strict with myself an i'm serious about losing weight. i currently teach other overweight people in Iraq how to lose weight and i'm in the process of making a powerpoint on how to start induction which i'm currently still on. i would post pictures of myself but i only have the current ones of me and i'm just waiting for an e-mail from home of all the pictures of when i used to be fat and overweight.
i think it's possible to lose a lot of weight on this diet very quickly and not starve, it's about discipline and willpower.
