  • Hello All

Just thought I would take a moment and say HI! Looking forward to bouncing ideas off others who have been there and can maybe make my experience a little easier. I started the low carb diet in early August, where I weighed (169 lbs). Given that I am 5'4", I was starting to look a little too pudgy for my own comfort and decided I needed to do something before my BMI went into the obese range. After my two weeks of induction, I weighed in at 160 lbs. I was feeling good with that and didn't want it too stop.

Things have slowed down considerably since then. I currently weigh 157 lbs, at one point I weighed in at 154. I am keeping my carbs below 30 a day. My target weight is 140lbs.

Rules that I am currently breaking: (Please comment on what should go first, if anything)

1)I like crystal light and diet pop (both have Nutrasweet), love Pepsi One but it has caffiene.
2)Still can't give up coffee in the morning. (I drink a 50/50 caf/decaf blend), I have cut down considerably.
3)I love to stuff myself. I am trying to pay more attention to this and stop as soon as I am satisfyied. It is hard though, especially when some of the food is so good.
    4) Love Atkins bars, considering not buying them for awhile to see if this makes a difference.

    \
All and all, I am not in the least disappointed in starting this diet. One note I was reading the 1992? version of the book. I have just got the 2002 from the library.

Thanks to all for your help and insperation. Using Fitday and loving it.

    Re: Hello All

Well, the first good thing is that you got the right book! Read it and then re-read it. The library copy is great, but if you can find your own copy in a thrift store or something, absolutely get it so that you can read it again and again. Maybe not the whole thing, but many of us frequently go back and read parts of it over and over and use it for reference.

You've done a good job at identifying your problem points...so my question to you is what are you going to do about them? You are the only one who can address them. I know that all of them are things that member after member after member has had to overcome. Take the bull by the horns and take charge of your life! I'd cut all that stuff out...and make the switch to decaf coffee just in the mornings. Eventuallly, you may cut that out too.

You can do this. Go look at the before and after pictures. Pull up posts of the people who've had huge successes and see what they have to say.

      Re: Hello All

point taken on the new book. I will get it. I used the earlier version like a constant reference manual.

As far as the crutches go, it reminds me a lot of when I used to smoke. No matter how many dirty lung pictures or coughing people you would see, you still would want to go have a cigarette. I didn't quit until I was mentally ready, regardless of the external environment.

Food is about the same way. I justify what I do (in my mind), even if I know better.

secondly, its hard to grasp that drinking 0-5 calorie drinks could possibly be bad. Although it seems there is post after post of people having problems with Nutrasweet.

I will get there, I just have to get my metal state there.

Welcome to the board!! Rules are not meant to be broken. I think you might be stalling because of the sugar and caffeine.

So when you get the need for pepsi or crystal light drink 2 glasses of water. I can just about promise you will not be thristy.

            Re: Hello All

Great job on identifying your trouble points. As you know when we find out problems in our life, the next step is to find solutions to those problems. I agree with Rich, water is your best option. It is inexpensive and it is essential to losing the weight. It makes your skin look younger, have more elasticity, helps with wrinkles, keeps you regular and your complextion will glow. Getting the book and reading it will help you to form a plan that fits into your life-style. This is a life-time committment, so it is important that you change unhealthy habits and replace with new and healthy ones.

Make back-up plans for times when you will be off your regular schedule -- (such as invites to dinner, meetings, visitors from out of town....) so that you won't use those times for excuses to interrupt your way of life.

Keep doing the program as Dr. Atkins suggests and you'll feel great and have good results. Best wishes!!!

              Re: Hello All

Great advice from all. I think what everyone is saying is things I already knew, but didn't want to believe. So far today I am nutrasweet and caffiene free and not feeling bad at all. What are the suggested alternatives when water and decaf coffee just won't cut it? I don't even want to entertain low carb milk yet.

As far as water goes, since I have started this experiment I have always drank more than enough water. Sometimes it seems like I have to go as soon as I get back to my office. LOL.

I finally used ground flaxseed yesterday. That stuff is awesome. Why don't more people use it regardless of the low carb mindset?

I actually like some teas. I assume you mean decaffienated.

Do you count any carbs with tea?
