  • New at this! Need moral support!!!!

Hello all! This is my third week doing the atkins. I had done 2 weeks but was told I needed to start over due to not eating the correct things. I am doing okay now but I really need the moral support from fellow atkin dieters! Please any advice you have or just support I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    23yo wanting to lose 50lbs!

What things were you eating that you shouldnt have been? Was it someone on this board who told you that you should re-start?

    Good luck.

Yes I told someone I was eating those carb bars for breakfast and lunch then eating a bigger dinner and they said I sould not be eating these bars and should probably start over and read the book and site for suggestions.

Re: New at this! Need moral support!!!!

Hey there from one Heather to another!

I re-started Atkins on April 5th of this year. I had my 3rd and final child mid November and waited until the 'easy baby weight' came off. My heavy weight was 260+ (I stopped getting on the scale after that!).

The first thing I did was re-read the book I had gotten. YA GOTTA READ!!! Then, I started induction. Currently, I am STILL in extended induction. I went up to Rung 2 then came back down because I do rather well with the induction foods. Occasionally, I'll bounce into Rung 1 or 2, but my critical carb levels are very low.

I eat 5-6 meals a day. I get up around 6:30, eat about 2 scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage with peppers and onions diced in my eggs. Then, I go to work and eat a snack around 10 ish. Normally either a 1 ounce cheese stick or some cheese cubes. Sometimes, I'll eat homemade bacon bits. For lunch, I'll eat a small salad, no dressing, with either turkey, ham, or hamburger diced on it. Then, I eat a small snack around 3 ish. Then, I eat a dinner sized meal around 6 ish. Normally a cheeseburger salad, baked chicken salad, or some other concoction that I come up with off the recipe boards.

I drink water ALL DAY LONG. I have to force it down sometimes when I don't want it.

I also did the boot camp that ADBB has. It really helps.

I exercise 45 minutes to 1 hour a day. I have 3 kids, a hubby, a house, a FT job, a PT job, and a life. I squeeze 15 minutes in the AM and 30-45 minutes after the kids are in bed. I LOVE the ab lounger. I do that every day along with one of the following: Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds, Billy Blanks Taebo, or an ancient stepper machine and treadmill I have.

        Suggestions:
        -Read the book.
-Pre-make snack baggies of food for you to munch on...it helps majorly during binge feelings (fry a burger, dice it up, put it in a baggie, precut cheese cubes, make heavy whipping cream with splenda as a 'sweet tooth snack'.)
-Use Fitday to measure your portions and make sure you reach your %ages suggested by Atkins. It makes a huge difference. At first, I was doing way to much cheese and not enough veggies. Once you follow the plan to the T, the weight drops off.
-Realize that if you cheat, it's just going to take longer to get where you want.
-Squeeze some exercise in. It's a MUST. I got tapes/equipment at yard sales and thrift shops to make myself a mini gym spread thru out my house. Ab Lounger and stepper in the kitchen, Treadmill in the laundry room, tapes in the living room.
-Measure yourself and write down the measurements.
-Take a picture and tape it to the frig (BIG thing for me to see that old pic!! YUCK!!)

If you're going to do this, do it right. Commit yourself.

Start a journal in the journal chat section. Log your food, exercise, water, and goals for the day. People will pop in your journal and give you advice. I think the support helped me get the weight off quicker this time. I have a journal and you're welcome to visit!

        Good luck! Heather

Thanks for the advice. I will have to get the book and try to come up with some recipies because I am honestly starting to get sick of all this meat! I am craving Fruit! This has been the hardest diet I have every tried.. but its also the only diet I have every steadily lost a weight even if its only been less than 10lbs.!

            Hi Heather!
Getting the book would be the best thing at this point - just to make sure that you dont get a month or so into it and find out that you've been eating something else that isnt great the entire time. Its very informative and gets you pumped to start this WOE, Everyone lives by it around here!

And for the support - ADBB!!!! This place is fantastic. Everyone is here for the same reasons so it helps to know there are others going through the same thing as you. Take a look through all the stickies and maybe start a Journal like Fit4 had suggested. This place has all the support you will ever need! Good luck!

            Also.....what part of Ohio?

I believe after you copy and past the code to the weight tracker, you need to hit save on your Signiture and then open it up again, and it should be there...you can't double click on it and get it to open...same with pictures, that's how I learned it, you copy and paste the code from photobucket, and then click save and then reopen signature...
                  try that..
                  Good luck!

Re: New at this! Need moral support!!!!

If by carb bars you mean the Atkins Advantage Bars the lions share of them aren't suitable for induction and could easily be the cause if you find yourself stalled. However, if you don't have any adverse effects from them they can actually be a godsend once you've entered the OWL phase. I used to have one for lunch when I was working full time and it helped me avoid all the goodies that people brought into the office. I only used them when I was working and have since found no need for them now that school has started up...but just thought I would mention that they aren't necessarily bad...just extremely fickle and if you decide to continue using them...2 a day is a little much not to mention expensive.

Best of luck on your weight loss journey and if you need anything feel free to give a shout!
