  • I've had enough....

    Hi Everyone, this is my first time posting on this board. I have been reading it over for a few days now though. I am going to start the Atkins tomorrow, 9/16/06. I have been on a rollercoaster for the past few months.

    Between getting married, moving cross country, leaving our family and friends, and buying our first home ever has left me 20 pounds heavier and more stressed than I ever thought possible. My lowest ever has been 138 and I got weighed at the gym yesterday by my personal trainer (how embarressing) and my grand total is 163. I am only 5'5 and I feel so frumpy. It has definately had an effect on my husband and I's relationship as well as making me feel depressed because I just don't feel good about myself.

    I have started going back to the gym 5 days a week, but doing that has led me to eat more because I am more hungry now. Of course I work in an office and there isn't any healthy food around, but I try to get up as much as possible. I am going to go grocery shopping tonight to fill up my cabinets with all Atkins friendly food. It is definately going to be a challenge because my husband doesn't eat stuff like that, but I am excited about getting back into shape.
    I can't wait to talk with some of you because you all seem so friendly. I will post some pics when I find where I left my confidence.

      Welcome. You've come to the right place to get information and motivation. The ADBB is filled with people who will walk the journey with you to health and weight loss. First of all, have you read the book? Its Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, edition 2002. As you read it, devise a plan to include the program into your individual life. Do a clean induction along with your exercise. Drink lots of water and take supplements. Measure as well as record your weight. You'll soon start feeling great and losing inches.

      We don't have control over the unhealthy foods that others bring into our work space, but we do have control over our own actions. Take acceptable foods with you so you'll not be tempted to eat the unhealthy choices. Drink lots of water, use mental and visual photos and/or inspirational messages that will help you stay motivated. Come to the ADBB often for a boost in your attitude. Know that you are not alone. There is a journal section to post in, challenges to join, health/life issues to read and before/after stories and photos. You can do it. Make it happen with a plan to succeed.

        WELCOME TO !! Best wishes to you on your journey to better health! I agree with Becky; read the BOOK and keep on exercising! Soon as you get rid of the sugar beast you will feel better than you ever imagined!

            Welcome!

            I would suggest coming here and reading posts when you're feeling like you're having a hard time! It's so inspirational to read what some people have managed to do! Here a couple of things you can do to keep inspired:

            - take your starting measurements (so you can check periodically how much fat is meliting away!)
            - read the Book! It's a great tool to use
            - keep your meals interesting. I think part of the reason I stopped after about 4 months the first time is that I stopped being imaginative with what I was eating.
            - take pictures. It's interesting to see where you started and how far you've come (and it can be far!)
            - reward yourself! I try and treat myself to something when I hit mini goals. A book, a movie, new makeup. I stay away from food rewards because that's when I get into trouble!

            Anyway, those are some of things I did/do to keep going!

              Thanks for all your support everyone. Getting through the weekend was definately tough but I managed. I read the book but I am better at learning through experience and chatting with people. I will read the book and nothing processes. Although I do have it for reference if I ever get stuck. Thanks again.
