  • My First Day!

    My name is Ashley and today is my first day on Atkins. In April of 2004, I started a low calorie diet and was able to lose about 70 lbs. I have kept all of the weight off, but am interested in losing the last few pesky pounds. I tried slimfast and weight watchers, but I wasn't able to make anything stick. I think I was just lacking in motivation. I decided that Atkins was probably the best solution for me because I like to be restricted. I need guidance. Too much freedom and I am a goner. I am in the process of recruiting my older sister to join me in the Atkins diet. I think it will be a lot easier to have someone close to me for extra support.

    I am going to refrain from posting my weight in this forum. I am told over and over again that I do not need to lose weight. I just want the respect from everyone else taking this route. I did have a slight weight problem and even dabbled in bulemia in the past. I hopefully have overcome that and am just looking for a healthier lifestyle. I am only 23 years old and I would like to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle from here on out.

    You're in for a treat! You're about to find a great way to not only loose weight but to feel in control of what you eat! I too need to have restrictions and guidelines and nothing has ever worked for me the way that Atkins does. What I love about Atkins in not only the weight that you loose, but the the things that you gain; self confidence, a new way of looking at what you choose to eat, the ability to make healthy choices due to the lack of cravings, all of the energy you loose when you eat a lot of what passes for healthy comes back and most of all, a renewed sense of pride. I've never been so proud of myself as when I was on Atkins. It's not just pride in the way you look (that's great, don't get me wrong) but pride in yourself for doing something and sticking to it.

    I stopped Atkins last year after I lost almost 40lbs and for a while I was in control. And then the cravings started, and I was tired all of the time and two weeks ago I realized that along with almost 18lbs, I'd also gotten back the lack of pride I used to have. Hence, here I am again and I am so happy, as I know you will be!

    One suggestion: If you haven't already, read the book! I was on the fence about Atkins until I read it. You will find out everything you need to know to be absoulutely successful. And if you use the book and come to this site often to talk about what you need to, get recipes, share your successes, receive encouragement when you need it and give encouragement where it's needed, you will be where you want to be! This site is a great tool, be sure to use it!

    Oh, and if you hit a week or two where nothing comes off, don't be discouraged. A number of things can keep the scale from moving ("that time of the month" for one thing. My scale hasn't moved in a week and this is only my second, but I'm going to keep going because I know a big drop is coming!) but if you follow the "rules" you will see results!

    First Mini Goal - 240lbs ~ acheived 09/11/06
    Second Mini Goal - 235lbs~

      Welcome and good luck to you. You're right -- it will be great to have someone close to you for support. But, this place is great, too -- when in doubt (or tempted or frustrated or anything else), come here. Folks are glad to help!
