  • restarting again and scared out of my mind...

Ok, I have been on Atkins on and off for about two years..the last time I was on Atkins it was the beginning of the year and I had lost a couple of pounds..I have joined the gym and lost more weight, but it feels that I'm at a plateau..I know that it is because of foods I eat. I don't eat fatty foods 24/7 but I am an emotional eater and I am addicted to sugar and starches..

So why do I want to restart? I'm sick of being stuck and not doing anything. I've always wanted a healthier body so this could be it. I know it's going to be very very hard and I'm going to need all the support I can get!!!

Well that's what we are here for -- support and helping you get back in control! This is not "could be it" -- you have to think this will be it. You will be in control over what you are eating, and you won't be a slave to sugars and staches any longer. Just remember whenever you get the urge to eat when you aren't hungry, redirect somewhere more positive like posting on here or exercise.

Glad to have you back amongst us!

Hi. Congratulations on not giving up on yourself. You've already went from 215-185, so you know it works for you.

I've noticed that you've restarted 3 times, so that is the issue I feel you need to address. Are you thinking of this program as a lifestyle change? When you stop, what are the reasons that are making you jeopardize your success? Write down what happens at those times - then make solutions to those issues. Are you bored with the foods you are eating? Eating repetitive meals all the time can be boring, maybe experimenting with different dishes can make your meals more exciting.

Plateaus are frustrating, but most everyone gets stuck at one time or another. The solution is to investigate what is causing it and take action. Increase or change your exercise or find out what foods are causing your stall. The ADBB is filled with people who've experienced plateaus and can give good advice that can help you.

Emotional eating can be stopped, but in order to stop a bad habit, you must replace it with a positive one. Plan what your positive actions will be when you feel the negative ones trying to take control. You can do this. We are all here to help you. Make a plan, follow through and be active in the ADBB. Making friends with others here can make a big difference. Journal, join challenges, read motivational posts and educate yourself on ways to get through the stalls.

hi there dreamof145..love your screen name...

I think the reason i've restarted so many times isn't because I've seen the diet fail--in fact i've seen great results and that should make someone want to continue, right? I think that because I'm so obsessed with food--practically sugars and starches--that I can't pass them without wanting to eat them, then i do and it starts all over again.
I'm thinking that I'm going to have to get a lot of support and it's mind over matter..the world is not going to fall if i don't eat that cookie or grab some crackers. it's gonna be tough so we'll see...

            Hi! Welcome back!
You CAN do this. You can. I was hooked on pepsi max - the first few days my jaw was killing me from clenching it because I wanted some pepsi so bad. I stuck it out and no longer crave pepsi max.
Its not easy - but remember you aren't alone. We are all here to help you through this - just like we are all here to cheer and celebrate your accomplishments and believe me you'll have plenty!
You haven't given up and thats what counts. Never give up and you will make your goal.
            Again....Welcome Back!
