    well im starting atkins diet because it seems easier than the other ones i have done because im not all that addicted to sweets or whatever i just like to eat alot, anyways, i was just wondering if this diet is safe? i got this quote from another site and wanted to hear what you guys have to say about it,

    "While many following the Atkins plan will never suffer any serious or major side effects, probably due to inability to adhere to the diet long term, a great many have suffered serious consequences. For one thing, we know that extremely high protein diets, like Atkins, can lead to acidic urine. Acidic urine leaches calcium from the body which significantly increases one's risk for osteoporosis and kidney stones. On the website atkinsdietalert.org, we learn about a man from Florida whose cholesterol shot up from 146 to 230 after two months following the Atkins plan; Rachel Huskey, just 16 years old, who collapsed and died due to electrolyte imbalances probably attributed to the Atkins plan; and a woman from California who experienced gall bladder disease and kidney stones (which is a common occurrence due to calcium loss) after just six months on the Atkins diet. "

    Spend a couple of hours reading the posts on this board. Look at the before and afters. See the happy, smiling, HEALTHY people who have dropped 50,100 even 200 lbs on Atkins.

      Like with any diet plan- always consult your doctor before starting it. I believe those who have problems had preexisting conditions before starting the diet or were not doing the diet correctly.

      The Atkins eating plan has years of studies showing that it truly does help people- the problem is that people often try to improve their weightloss by doing the plan incorrectly. Just search this forum for- "Will I lose faster if I cut out all carbs?" etc.

      This diet does wonderful things for those of us with an addiction to sugar and helps us to lose weight and feel better than any other eating plan.

      The safest way to start a new eating plan:

      Talk to your doctor first and continue to talk to your doctor along the way. Listen to your body and report anything unusual to your doctor. AND ALWAYS FOLLOW THE PLAN AS DIRECTED.
