  • Hi im new

Hi all my name is Kaley, i'm new here... This is day 3 for me doing Atkins, and i really need some motivation. I've been folowing the diet exact, i havent cheated and i havent let myself even think about cheating. I'm about 5'10" and weigh around 170.. I do look somewhat thin, but i am a thick person-i dont wanna be thick anymore! I look fine with cloths on, but i wanna feel good in a swimsuit again ..The last couple of years my weight had went up alot. I weight around 140 or so in high school. But after graduating, I ate myself to like 190 It was fun, but i was miserable! So i lost about 25 lbs or so over a couple of months (not on atkins) but now im afraid im starting to regain! So i looked into atkins as a way to lose about 30 lbs and be able to maintain that weight! I highly beleive in it as a lifestyle change, i think it will be great. But one thing that has been bothering me--The first day on Atkins of course i felt great, but the past two days have been kind of miserable. I havent had any energy and ive had bad headachs and havent been able to sleep very well..Is this normal??? How long will it take for me to start feeling better?? I havent been able to excersise any, which i do daily? Please let me know if this is in fact normal to go thru!! Thank You!

    Hi Kaley,

    Welcome to the bb!

Congratulations on starting Atkins and for being on Day 3 - Good for you! This is a great way of eating and you'll love being on the plan.

It sounds like you may be experiencing a slight induction flu which usually goes away in 3 or 4 days. The normal tread is to experience more energy, so expect that within the next day or so. One thing that helps to ease the symptoms of an induction flu is to drink lots of water to flush your system. That will probably help you feel better soon.

      Hi Kayley. Welcome.

What you are experiencing is completely normal. Your body is going through withdrawl symptoms. It is called the Induction Flu. The good thing about this is that it is telling you that your body is converting to using fat for energy instead of stored carbohydrates. This usually stops after 3-4 days and you receive a burst of energy and start to feel great.

Have you read the book? Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, edition 2002? I'd recommend you read it through and keep it for reference, as it addresses all the phases of Atkins and how to do them. The ADBB is full of people who share their stories, photos, advice and encourage you to make it happen.

Best wishes and keep us posted on your progress!!

          Kaley,

I'm glad you got out for an 8 mile ride. I'm sure you must feel a lot better now. Remember to drink a lot of water.

I'm glad to hear that you're buying the book. Also, read through the induction thread to help you during the interim.

It's been wierd..In the mornings i just do not feel good, but as the day goes on i start to feel better. But riding did help, i was able to do my slim in 6 workout yesterday too! I Still feel a little week again this morning (day 4!) so i am gonna get up and do things, ride again-it seems to help me! Wow but i cant beleive its day 4 haha ive never made it this far on ANY diet without cheating! But i do feel really good because im not hungry at all! To me, hunger is the worst feeling in the world! Thanks so much for replys!

Oh and water really does help, since i started the diet, ive had a bottle of water in my hand from the minute i wake up until the minute before i go to sleep! I drink about 7-8 20oz bottles of water daily! Is that good enough? I am naturally a water lover, so im lucky! It helps me thru cravings too!

Thanx Schellie! You know i really like my name too, because its different-i mean you hardly meet anyone named Kaley ( you do more these days than evr,but still not many) And there are so many ways to spell it! I hated the name when i was little but ive grown to like it because no one else i really know has it Thanks again for the support guys! And isnt it frustrating trying to find nicknacks with Kaley on them! I always wanted the pencils and toothbrush and keychains with my name but they just dont have them!

                  Kaley,

It does sound like you're getting plenty of water. That's great. I'm glad to hear that you were able to add in your Slim In 6 workout yesterday. It sounds like you're energy's already beginning to pick up some.

                  Congratulations on Day 4 - YaY !
