  • Greetings from Buenos Aires

    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been reading this forum for some days now, and find it so cool I thought I'd be part of it.

I have been doing the Induction phase for about 45 days now, lost 16.5 pounds already (had to look that one up, we use kilograms here, but it sure sounds better in pounds lol). I feel great and almost don't feel the carbs cravings anymore (just ocasionally, when cooking for my children).

I am 30 years old, started Atkins with 165.5 pounds and my goal is 130 pounds (20 to go!). I have 2 children, 4 and 2 years old, and had two very healthy pregnancies, except that I gained 85 pounds with the first one, then went back to 125, and again around 80 pounds up on the second one. My doctor made me take a lot of tests, but all the results were fine. Still, I am sure I have SOME kind of metabolic disorder (I prefer calling it a carb addiction now ), because I remember waiking up in the middle of the night and eating sugar with a tablespoon. I was completely out of control, and everyone telling me I had to stop eating for the baby's sake only made it worse, of course.

Anyway, those days are gone now, for good! In Argentina, the Atkins method is not very well known and much criticized, but I know it is good for me, I simply feel great. I eat lots of meat (great meat, by the way ), eggs, tuna, lettuce, wattercrest, some cheese, some cream, half tomato a day, and that's about it. When I want to indulge myself, I mix sour cream, cream cheese, Stevia, powdered sugarless chocolate and weel-worn egg whites. Delicious!!

OK, this came out longer than I expected, so I'll wrap it up. I will keep reading this forum, and posting my advances.

Thank you all very much!! Your stories (I know all about you by now ) and photographs are truly inspiring.

My next goal, once I've reached 130 pounds, that is, is to quit smoking (2 packs a day, shame on me ). I know it would probably be better to quit cigarettes right away, but I really wouldn't want to gain weight now, I feel so good about myself! And Spring has just started here in Argentina, so I'm looking forward to wearing some gorgeous short dresses this Summer .
Sorry if my English is not always perfect, I know I can slip here and there, but I'm sure you understand (we speak Spanish in Argentina, as I'm sure you all know).

Thanks again, you guys, you are terrific!!!

            Re: Greetings from Buenos Aires

I was just next door this summer! I take students to Peru each year. I've always wanted to go to Argentina. I've learned how to speak Argentinian and chat online in Argentinian chat rooms. The accent is soooo beautiful! Beef is very popular in Argentina, right? Congrats on what you have lost so far. In what area of Argentina are you?

              Hi Josie!

Well, I wouldn't call Peru "next door" from Argentina lol. So you like our accent? Of course, I can't really hear it, but many people have told me that already. If you feel like practising your "Argentinian" Spanish, we can chat anytime, my MSN is mjalbaya@hotmail.com (and that goes for anyone else who would like to practise their Spanish, of course).

I live in the outskirts of Buenos Aires city, in a very quiet neighbourhood called Adrogué, just 30 minutes away from downtown BA by train. If you get the chance to come here sometime, make sure you contact me before: I will help you out with touristic information, and you can bring me some Atkins Baking Mix , I can't find any of those products down here!

Thanks for your reply, I am really happy with Atkins, and have found my life-long nutrition system. I am sure later on, once I've reached my goal weight, I will eat more variety than right now, but I will NEVER EVER drink Coke, white bread, candies, etc. again.

                Re: Greetings from Buenos Aires

ARGENTINA?!? My father was born there! However, he moved to the states when he was 5 so his spanish vocabulary isn't that big. I WISH it was because if he brought me up to learn how to speak Spanish I would've sounded so sexy...HAHAH I wish I could speak it...

We visited a few years back, we actually stayed in Buenos Aires - how funny! Plus my best friend is a model over there - she goes back and forth to Chile alot. I wanted to go back but haven't been yet...it's SOOO gorgeous there. When I was there, we ate at some restaurant where they had tango dancers but the ONE guy who was there - taught Madonna how to dance in the movie Evita and since I was a dancer, my grandma got him to tango with me. HAHAHAHHA ohhh good times...

You are right though - they had alot of yummy carb foods like Empanadas (sp?) - my grandma makes them all the time. I tend to eat just the middle these days...MMmMmMmMm sooo good!!

anyway ((sigh)) I'm so jealous you are there. I miss the culture and lifestyle - just everythign about it.
But, back on topic. Um.. - YAY FOR ATKINS, GOODLUCK, keep going!

                  Re: Greetings from Buenos Aires

Empanadas? Tell me about it, ShellyBelly, that's been one of the toughest things to resist, especially because I'm a terrific cook myself (you'll have to believe me on that one ), and I make delicious empanadas. Oh, well, I'd rather be thin and healthy by the Summer .

I have only lost like 100 grams this week (about .2 pounds, I guess?), but my measures are smaller, so, that's fine with me.

I don't do much exercise, maybe I'll have to start going to the gym; I confess I hate working out, but I DO want to loose those 20 pounds, so...

I have only been twice to USA myself, once in New York for a week, and a month in Hattiesburg and New Orleans. Loved the south!! I hope I can start travelling again when my children get older, I seem to think so much better when I'm on the move (be it a train, plane, car, just something that will get me somewhere), if you know what I mean.

Thanks for all your messages, I'm really glad I've joined this forum
