  • Day #3, Introducing myself!!

Hey everyone! I would be lying if I said I was entirely new because ...well, let's just say I'm VERY familiar with Atkins. My family is completely atkins-friendly. My mother (5'2) lost 60 pounds - she's a new woman. And my father dropped 30 and started running marathons.

I'm one of those girls who is obsessed about weight only because most of my family is obese. Therefore, I'm extremely cautious. However, all through H.S I was dancing 8 hours a day and was all muscle, not 1 ounce of fat on me. But - (drum role) - I ate horribly and had horrible skin that not ONE dermatologist could fix...(keep that in mind).

Then it was time for college. I danced half the hours I used to and had a wide open schedule - and to fill my boredum I would ...EAT. (Sound familiar?) So I gained about 8 pounds, but at my worst - I put on 20. I was also 3 sizes up. I never left my dorm.

After watching my parents succeed on Atkins, I did it myself and lost all the weight and looked better than ever and the BEST part was - my skin was CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!

So, now I'm at a healthy weight since I adapted the atkins lifestyle but the only problem is... I find it so EASY to drop lbs that I tend to cheat here or there thinking - no big deal...but that's my problem. I'm a yo-yoer. I'll plan my binges and then get back on. So that issue is really keeping me from my size 4 I want to wear again - and will also cause my occasional breakouts.

Maybe some think I'm paranoid because I'm def in shape as it is, but I'm a perfectionist and being on Atkins - I feel better overall and my skin and hair...everything just glows.

So, here I am. To drop approx, I dunno - 10 pounds and keep it off. But MOST IMPORTANTLY, to keep my skin clear. It's the only thing that works for this face of mine...plus, I gain weight in my face FIRST and I want my cheekbones popping again...got it?!

    Sorry for the book.
    I'm here to stay!

Welcome, Shelly! Congratulations on seeing through what you need to do. You will find tons of support here, including when you hit maintainence. I'm so glad you've had such wonderful results with Atkins. I totally agree with you about skin. It's amazing!!!

ProfitWeb - THANKS! However, now that you said "maintenance" - um, my problem is that I'm SUCH a carb addict that once I slowly introducing other carbs - I end up failing. Thus, is why I usually STAY on Induction.

I plan on staying on induction for atleast a month. Well, no because after 2 weeks I will add in my michelob ultra but count that with my carbs...and that's not induction but more or less that would be the ONLY treat I'm giving myself after 2 weeks...I wouldn't want to even try the other phases until...I don't know - I'm just SCARED TO!

Plus, I don't really drink too often. Probably only once a month. And 2 weeks from now I'm going to a Jets game with my boyfriend and intend on having a nice little buzz. Good thing about atkins is that I get buzzed off two beers and I'm set! HA...

I've read the book, but I'm nervous about the later phases b/c that's where I always...end up falling off the ladder, ARGHHHhh

I think you will do fine. Don't stay on induction for to long as the food choices will get boring. Move up the ladder, see what works for you and what doesn't. Some carbs are not going to affect your weight loss at all, and others, even legal ones will slow you down. Use fitday so you can analyse what works for you. Then when you hit Maintenance, you will know the foods to avoid and those that you can safely eat with relish.

          Welcome Shelly

It sounds like you have a handle on induction, but I will echo what the others have said about not staying on induction too long.

The first rung/level of OWL (the main weightloss phase of Atkins) is 5 net carbs of those induction veggies, not too daunting an addition, so give it a try after your first 2 weeks and see if you can't manage to climb the OWL ladder this time!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
