Even though I've posted in lots of different threads, I haven't actually introduced myself. SO here goes...
My name is Julie, and I'm 25. I live in Montana, but moved here a little over a year ago from Michigan. That was a stressful move! And it certainly put some lbs. on me.
This is my second time following atkins (and hopefully my last--I plan to keep doing it as a WOL, not a temporary fix). My first run started in March of 2003. I weighed over 250, and was really unhappy with myself. I was always tired, had horrible mood swings, and felt disgusting. I decided to try atkins because my parents had been doing it for about a month--and they looked and sounded fabulous. I had never seen them with so much energy or youthfullness. I took the online quiz on the atkins site, and discovered that my food choices were causing my headaches and mood swings. I decided to go for it! My boyfriend supported me fully (and still does to this day) by helping to cook, giving me support and being a great friend. His only concern when I started atkins: "You won't lose your butt, will you?"
I was successful for about a year--I got down to 170 by May 2004 and felt really good. Over the summer I slacked a little, and during that fall semester, I was incredibly stressed--I was student teaching AND working 30 hours a week to pay rent. Needless to say, I became lazy and piled on the pounds. I did manage to lose some weight by cutting out junk food and exercising, but I gained it back in the summer of 2005 when my boyfriend and I moved 2000 miles from home.
The first year in Montana was also stressful--my first year as a teacher! My habits got worse and worse. I didn't realize how truly far I'd fallen until my boyfriend's family came to visit this summer and snapped a picture of the two of us. I saw that picture, had my AH HA! moment, and began atkins as soon as his family had left for home.
I began atkins on August 17, and I have gone down 2 full clothing sizes so far. I haven't weighed myself recently (personal no weigh challenge!) but I know I've lost at least 25 lbs. I feel spectacular and have the energy to teach 9 classes a day, do after-school tutoring, AND work out for an hour! I am so happy to be feeling like "me" again, and I'm really glad that' I've found this group to learn from.
So, that was rather longwinded, but I felt I should formally introduce myself. Mamma always said, don't talk to strangers...
