  • New here - from the UK

    Hi

Just thought I'd introduce myself and give a brief background (and ask a question or two).

Never ever thought that I'd find myself thinking about changing over to an Atkins lifestyle. I've known about it for years (and really known about it - not the 'eat only bacon and eggs for the rest of your life' hearsay), but was never particularly overweight or overly concerned about my health back then (I'm 195lbs now, which isn't comfortable on 5'3" - although I don't look as heavy as I am).

So.. here I am! I have Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution and Atkins for Life arriving in the mail tomorrow, and intend to spend the weekend pouring over them, right in time for a start on induction on Monday.

    Just a question though -
When entering OWL, I understand that you should add in groups of foods in turn (vegetables > dairy > nuts + seeds > berries > alcohol > legumes > fruits > starchy vegetables > whole grains). If you don't consume one of those groups (ie, alcohol), or are allergic to one of them (wheat, dairy, etc.), do you simply skip that rung and move onto the next one?

Thanks - and I look forward to posting more here

This is what I've read/heard...Skip it, but spend the time you would have spent on it, eating the foods on the one below it. Is that right?

If you do each rung for 2 weeks, and you skip dairy, spend 4 weeks on veggies (two for veggies, two in place of dairy), then move to nuts/seeds, etc.

          Hi Lara

I'm 5.3" and started out at 188 so I'm very similar to you. I've managed to shift 19 lbs but I find it moves so much better when I'm exercising!!

Where about in the UK are you from?

I also found the best thing to do is read as much as possible on here, you find some fantastic hints and tips, and sometimes find things your doing wrong, so you can put it right asap!!

          Good luck

Thanks for the help and 'welcome''s everyone

Jane - I'm from Swansea (or thereabouts). I agree, the board is packed with info (I've been reading a lot of the stickies), and I have a half-marathon in March so I definitely will be exercising - not going to be running until the beginning of November though, as I'm building my aerobic fitness back up using my rebounder until then (and doing some strength training 2 x per week).

So, I'm off to read my books, which arrived this morning, and browse the stickies on the forum
