  • Hi I'm Sick of the sight of me

Obviously I knew I was overweight but I didn't realise until last week just how disgusting I look, I saw myself on home video and just wanted to cry. It was not how I saw myself at all. Then I bought some new swimmers and shorts and I bought size 24 and they were a tight fit. I'm ashamed of myself, I looked at myself in the mirror and asked myself "Is this what you really think you're worth, do you have no self respect?"

Hi I'm Dee from Queensland Australia, I'm a SAHM mother of five. I started Atkins on Saturday at 104kg (229 Lb) My current weight is 99kg (218Lb), I feel really good except for being really thirsty. I aim to stay on Induction for atleast four weeks as I feel I have a lot to lose. I would like to get down in the 80's before starting OWL which at this stage I feel will be possible. My biggest hurdle is finding the time to exercise. Because I don't want to do it I find a 101 reasons and excuses why I can't. My DH bought me a treadmill so that I can go walking at home as going out with 3 under 4 is a major issue for me. I live in a very small Town and don't have access to a Gym. My goal weight is 65kg (143Lb) (Total weight to lose 39kg = 86Lb) However I have mini goals and my first mini goal was to get below 100kg which I have done as of this morning so my next goal is to break 89kg and do it in 10kg lots. I feel that if I concentrate on the mini goals I can trick myself into losing as it won't seem like to much to lose. I have put the scales away and have challenged myself to not hop on until next friday. See how I go, lol.

    Ta Dee

I'm so glad to have found this sight.

Hi Dee. Welcome. Congratulations on your 11 pounds!!! You're on your way....

Great that you have a treadmill. You can turn on some music and let the kids dance while you walk on it, or sing songs with them. I found the best way to exercise with kids is to involve them. My grandsons always went on walks with me or did exercise tapes or whatever we could do that had our bodies moving. They loved it and I desperately needed it.

I'm so glad you've joined us. The frustrated feelings you described are very familiar to most every one of us on the board. We've been there, but the good thing is that from this day forward...you can change all of that and find the healthier and happier side of life. I'm not just saying these things...I can tell you from experience that you can do it. This is the best support group filled with caring, motivating and knowledgable people who want to see you succeed. Best wishes!!

Re: Hi I'm Sick of the sight of me

Hi Guys thank you so much for your warm welcome. Last night was my first real challenge, The Older girls were snuggled up with a glass of softdrink and a bowl of popcorn watching a movie and it took all of my strength to not join them, I love popcorn. But I know my limits and I would have caved in, so I went to the family room (Den?) and sat at the computer working on my house design. I two glasses of water and told myself that I don't really want it. Still wanting something to nibble on I got out a slice of bacon and one slice of salami and put them on the grill and made them really crispy, cut it into pieces then I nuke a bit of chedder cheese and added the meat stirred and voila I had a very low carb, very filling yummy snack.

I have to break the habit of wanting to put something in my mouth, I really wasn't hungry, I just had to have something, grrrrrrrrr. Although being TOM doesn't help one bit.
Well today is a new day, I'm still in the dark pink(a new obsession), was purple, but I think I had to much vegies lastnight, didn't get on the scales though and will wait the week out to see what I have lost and I'll do measuements then too.

I have too learn to stop putting myself down and telling myself that I can't and start telling myself "You can do it". Better get a move on, Saturday Morning clean up is about to start (Everyone pitches in and the house sparkles, lol) I'm late starting today.
                    Bye

Dee, girlfriend, YOU can do this. You have already become the overcomer, by avoiding the popcorn... There will probably be more of those challenges right around the corner! There everywhere and we all use our "methods" of overcoming. I talk to myself a good bit...I have picked some days like 1 week, 1 month, 100 days, Jan 1, 2007, my birthday, and Aug1, 2007, I am working towards those days, I will stay cheat free, and work it, one day, one week, one month at a time, I WILL work to meet each date...Currently I will be finishing up day 74 heading right into day 75 tomorrow...It's fun to hit the 2 week induction mark, the 1 month mark...There is a cheat free challenge, "How Far Can You Go" in the challenges, you should join, it' motivating!!!
Hey hope you have a good nite, down under....I love Ozzie Land!!! I thought you would call the "den" the "lounge room", we call it a livingroom.

Lol Jess, I wasn't sure what you called it so that's why I put the Question mark, Yeah ours is a lounge/ living room and a family room is just an extra living space.

I had a great day today, spent most of the day with the kids outside.

Re: Hi I'm Sick of the sight of me

I go to a church, where the leadership, pastors and a few others come from Sydney. Have you ever heard of Christian City Churches? Well they have about 30 here in the US. Our Sr. Pastor is australian...so we have a "visitor's center" called the visitor's lounge. He says, "car park" we say parking lot...He says, Dunny, we say bathroom...
There are a million more, and often times He puts his foot in his mouth, but Hes now a US citizen and has figured out how to be very appropriate in american church land...that's tough for an aussie, I am sure. I love your spirit...Just love it. I run our childrens church dept. and they call me Outback Jess, thus my name here...
It's a dream to one day visit there.
So dee, how is it going, atkins-wise for you today, what day of induction is it..how is all the water intake going? Do you feel good, or are you detoxing, getting rid of the sugars inyour system???
It's a beautifully cold day here in the Southeast USA...I hiked yesterday, so it's a rest day today. I have a wedding outside tonight at 5 to attend and I forgot all about it, so the challenge will be to see what I have I can still fit into and be appropriate and warm...I may be freaking at the store in short order...
