  • Thinking about it....

    Hello,
I haven't been around the boards in about a year, and believe me, it shows on my waistline! I'm thinking about starting up the Atkins WOE again, but I don't want to treat it like another fad. I need to be sure I can stick with it this time. Right now I just feel so fat & gross and I'm in that "I'll do anything to lose weight!" mindset, which I know is not healthy, and not congruent with the Atkins lifestyle.

So, I'm basically just blathering on, hoping that I'll feel strongly about doing it one way or another. Anyone care to spur me on?

    Hi Effie!

How did you feel last time you were on Atkins? Did you enjoy the food? Did you experience the cessation of constant hunger? That's the main thing for me. I always seem to be struggling, but I'll never give up Atkins b/c it's the only way I can eat that I'm not always thinking about food. I feel really good and in control on this WOE. Did you follow the plan by the book last time? i.e. did you move up the rungs, eat all your veggies, drink all your water, exercise? These are key for long term success, I believe. But this plan isn't for everyone. Some people have better success on other plans and that's fine. But for me, this is the plan I'm going to stick to. I can't give you any incentive, other than to ask yourself how you feel on this plan as opposed to other plans. Good luck!

      Hi Lady,
I felt great at first, but then things started to unravel and that's when I threw in the towel. I think I got up to rung 4. I'm not sure it was the foods themselves that got me off track, but I think I started to be less prepared. That's my downfall on ANY weight loss plan. I leave the house in the morning with no food packed and inevitably end up eating fast food. Part of the reason I want to go back to Atkins is so I won't be as focused on food like I am now. I definitely obsess about it and get that uneasy feeling if I don't have certain crave foods in the house (i.e. sweets).

Right about now though, crustless quiche sounds so appealing. I just don't want to get 2 months into it and then be like, "oh yeah, I forgot that I can't stick with this." Sheesh, how's that for negative self-talk!

Seriously though, I'm leaning towards doing it. I had 3 slices of bacon and 1 slice of provolone cheese this morning, so I can still make this work.

Planning is definitely key for me. Every Sunday I make up little veggie bags for me and dh for the week and boil about a dozen eggs. I also spend some weekends making legal casseroles so when I come home late from the gym or whatever, I can just heat something up instead of making grilled cheese sandwiches or pancakes or something quick but bad. I also put little leftovers in the freezer. DH says "why are you putting one pork chop/steak/whatever in the freezer?" Because.....some mornings I'm not organized and I can just grab that pork chop out of the freezer and my veggie bag and a couple of boiled eggs and off I go.

Don't start thinking now that you are going to fail. That's killer. If you are looking forward to Atkins food now then go with it. And plan to keep going with it. Success breeds success, right? Sounds like you're off to a good start today. Have faith in yourself. We have faith in you.

Hi Effie. I agree with all the previous comments. This is the best place to receive support and motivation to succeed this time. You're on the right track by knowing that this time it has to be a life-style change, and not a fad diet. I encourage you to make a plan to make it happen.

Write out your reasons for wanting it to happen, make an exercise routine that fits into your schedule, write out the stressful things in your life that have caused you to previously jeopardize your health - then make solutions to stopping it from happening again. These are the things that will keep you focused and motivated. We are all here for you, today can be a new beginning to a healthier, thinner and happier you.

            You can do it!

EFFIE! Remember me? I definitely remember you and have often wondered where you've been. Has it really been a year that you've been gone? So, here you are....YAY! You can do this, I know you can. You were so good before and you will be so good again.
