  • Hieee!

So... I'm super excited because tomorrow marks 2-weeks since DH and I started Atkins. We will be continuing on into extended induction because we have a lot to lose. I honestly could not be happier with this WOE. My carb cravings are completely gone (which is amazing because I was a total chocoholic. It is still kind of difficult to see a really good looking brownie or piece of cake, but I'm not craving at night or anything.) I have a lot of energy, no crashes towards the end of the day and have been drinking a ton of water. Also, I would like to point out that TOM just ended at I've still had a completely cheat free induction. Very proud of myself. The key I have found is lots and lots of preparation and cooking. (I work full-time and go to school in the evenings so if I can do it, anyone can.)

A little back story. Husband and I overweight all our lives... blah, blah, blah. But never anything like this. I use to just be cute and curvy, but there's nothing cute about ALL this. Last year we quit smoking and I went on some medicine and really started piling on the pounds. (I don't like to actually BLAME the medicine though, I was the one putting the food in my mouth. I think it just facilitated the weight gain.) So my weight has just sky-rocketed. DH and I got married at the end of August (still very much the newlyweds) and all of a sudden we just started taking our health very seriously. We both saw doctors and decided we wanted to make sure we had long, happy lives together.

So, we're not really weighing ourselves yet. I'm thinking soon though. I know how much I weighed at my doctor's visit right before we started. My doctor actually recommended Atkins (she didn't say Atkins, she said low carb, but still). Now I think we need to really step up our exercise. Again, difficult because of busy schedules, but I know we can do it. Unfortunately, I think my best bet if going to be hiring a trainer (accountability) and working out before work (6 a.m.!!!!!!!!!). But I'm ready.

Sorry for the rambling. Just really excited!

    Re: Hieee!

Hello. Welcome!! So happy you've introduced yourself. I'm glad you're enjoying the benefits of your new way of life. Atkins is a fantastic program to eliminate the cravings and gain self-control over your eating. Beefing up the exercise is a great idea - you'll really start seeing fantastic results and tighten up from the weight loss. I'd also recommend you measure as well as weigh yourselves - its very motivating to see the inches fall off.

    Best wishes!!!

Welcome Egardner. Sounds like the Atkins bug has bitten you for sure. After struggling with weight and eating for such a long time, isn't the feeling of not being hungry and this even feeling somewhat "easy" amazing?

Keep us posted on your and hubby's progress... look forward to seeing you around the board.

          Re: Hieee!

Thanks for all the well wishes. I forgot to mention that I've been reading the forums for about three weeks, so I kind of feel like I know a lot of you guys some already. You all have definitely been an inspiration and were instrumental in helping us make the decision to try this WOE. Love the before and after pics!! And seeing everyone's menus and recipes and shopping lists has definitely helped. I just wanted to make sure that I was going to stay committed before I joined the forums myself. I look forward to sharing my success (and trials and tribulations I'm sure) with you guys!

Consider starting a journal (and including it in your signature so people wander over). And join a challenge (or two). It's a fun way to get to know people better (and them you), and a great source of support and encouragement.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
