  • Starting over...again

I guess I am done making excuses for myself. You can only use "freshman 15", "car accident", "had a baby",and "not enough time" for so long. In a couple of months I will be 37 years old and don't want to be at this weight when I'm 40. 224 lbs -that's what I weighed the last time I got on a scale. About 5 months ago I was at 238, so that's a 14 lbs loss. But its not enough. I need to lose more. When I started I figured I needed to loss 100 lbs. That was so scary for me to know I had let myself eat so much. But what was even more scary was the thought of diabetes and heart failure. Both of which run in my family more than I would like.

I've done atkins before. Tired it several times and suffered through those initial headaches, which I am not looking forward to. But, I can't seem to last more than a week anymore. I saw this site and like the positive feedback and encouragement and thought this is just what I need to be able to make in through those first 2 weeks. If I can do that, then I can just continue from there.

I am confirming to all those reading this - I am beginning today at dinner and will start counting my 14 days from tomorrow. Please provide encouraging words -- I will need them.

And, will someone please tell me what all those letters and numbers at the end of the e-mails mean...

    Gi

Gi, Welcome, glad you found us and joined. Heres some hints for success. Measure yourself, chest, waist, hips, thighs, etc and write them down. Its fun to watch yourself melt away. Check out www.fitday.com. A great site to journal your food everyday. Start a journal, you'll love the friends you meet there and lastly, if you haven't, read the book, Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, publ 2002; if you have, reread it. Join an exercise challenge also. We got lots going on.
    Welcome again

      Goodmorning Gi,
I want to invited you over to STAC, which is a forum called Second Time Around Club. We have a wonderful community over there, and we have all been down the road with Atkins before, but this time, we are dealing with all the little things we did not do before, and or we are trying to work it deeper from with in, dealing more with our food issues, and why we return to them...STAC is a great place to be cheered on while you go thru induction! Staying in the main forums will be a positive too...
As dessertthorn mentioned, there are challenges you can join, and there is a wonderful one that motivated me the most in the beginning, "How Long Can You Go!" I am on day 80 I think, and it's all cheat free.
Getting yourself firmly back into the Atkins routine with the induction foods, all the water and daily exercise is what we are all working on daily, so you won't be alone here, and we love to celebrate all the tiny little successes and revelations you get along the way, they touch and change us too!
Girl, go after all the water you are suppose to drink, it will help give you a sense of full and it will be a great accomplishment at the end of the day!

Wow! Great feedback. Just what I was looking forward to. I've gone to www.fitday.com. It's a great site so easy to track my food intake and my other goals. It was hard for me to come up with a set goal to lose and how long it would take me. Although I had known I wanted to lose maybe a hundred pounds, putting it in writing - that was an accomplishment for me. No turning back now. I'll be looking into the challenges and the STAC.

I'm now going to go fill my gallon container of water.

          Re: Starting over...again

Welcome, Gi. I strongly encourage you to set a mini goal for yourself -- one, or even a few. I, like you, have 100 pounds to lose. Breaking that down into bite sized pieces -- in writing, for you and all the world to see -- helps a lot. If you go to tickerfactory.com, you can make a cute graphic for your signature that tracks your progress toward your mini-goal -- or your big one. Seems silly, but it helps!

Best of luck to you. When you feel tempted or discouraged, come here. Post that you are struggling and need help. Someone will answer quickly, I guarantee it. And while you wait, browse other people's posts... it helps tremendously.

Best of luck to you. I look forward to seeing your posts around and hearing about your progress!

You can do this! Make a plan to succeed, take measurments and weight, come here often for inspiration and make friends with people who are making it happen. Best wishes!!

                          Re: Starting over...again

Well, my first day went great! So did the second and third. My issue was the fourth. My wonderful husband decided to help make lunch which started great with ground beef steaks and asparagus. But, bless his heart he thought homemade baked frenchfries would be a "healthy" vegetable. Not his fault - I put them in my mouth. But I reacted like I never have reacted before. I didn't binge. For the rest of the day, I ensured I drank all my water and did some exercise. I'm not looking back. I started good again today. I just don't know if I need to start counting my induction days over again or just my no cheat days. Any advice

Good for you for not deciding to eat off-plan after that one wrong choice

No need to restart counting from day one, Gi, just carry on as if you hadnt made that mistake.

It just means that your 14 day results will probably not be as good as if you had made it without off-plan eating, and your numbers when you calculate your likely CCLL and metabilic resistance to losing weight won't be as accurate.

                            Keep on keeping on!
